I was confused with how they portrayed the secret evil government people. Benny finds 011 first and calls social services or whatever. Evil government agency intercepted the call and sent an agent to retrieve the child. Then he is brutally murdered by the government despite the fact he had no clue about Eleven's powers or anything that was going on. From Benny's perspective, he just found a strange lost kid and reported it. His death was completely unnecessary. It makes you think "wow this secret government agency is ruthless, evil and very cautious". Fair enough. But then Hopper invades the facility. Instead of offing him, they drug him and put him back at his home and just hope he thinks it is all a dream. Despite the fact that Hopper knew more than any other civilian, and was in a position of authority and unlikely to give up. He didn't buy that it was just a dream for a second. Maybe they thought the town would be suspicious if he died, but like they later show they had the perfect way to kill him (that he was a depressed drug addict who OD'd) Then Hopper and Winona invade the facility again. Instead of offing him, they make a deal to have Eleven's whereabouts. But why wouldn't they just kill him second he revealed where Eleven is? I know they thought "the portal will kill them both anyway" but for how cautious they were with Benny, it makes no sense to gamble that. Basically letting Hopper live while killing Benny for no reason just doesn't make sense to me.

Honestly yeah, I agree. One explanation could be that it's easier to have grandma assassin do her dirty work in private than when surrounded by regular workers. There's got to be a point when the average security mook has issues with killing the chief of police and ten year olds.

im guessing that the tulip face is just a worker ant and that weird structure with the alien breathing/feeding tube down throat is nurturing some larger alien or colony or something. i wonder if next season is going to be a continuation of this setting and characters or will they do the "entirely new story+cast" route

They've even said they might do a short PC game to bridge the seasons as they really liked the mockup some guy did of ST as a point and click adventure.

While you run the risk of not being able to put that lightning back in the bottle like True Detective, a continuation of the story seems unnecessary. Currently, Stranger Things is good like a Stephen King short story. Expanding the story into a second season would make it bad, like a Stephen King novel.

At that time it was cheaper for them to buy multiple crap vehicles for a single big job and then junk them than it was to rent or buy and maintain a few good ones because it was way easier to find some dude's lot and give them like $400 for something that looks like absolute poo poo but will run well enough for the next week or two they need it. After covering up two deaths and killing a third person they probably hit a point where it's a better idea to bully a dozen people into keeping quiet than to somehow try to cover up a dozen more murders.

The fact that there wasn't a contingency plan in place for something like this just cements how goddamn stupid the government is in Stranger Things. They don't hire any townsfolk, so nobody is forced into silence by complicity, what possible leverage besides violence could they put against the town? In the epilogue sequence it's even shown that they get their dumb asses sued by Joyce and others.

As for killing Hop, first they didn't know if he had told anyone he was going there, if he did and ended up dead the jig would be up for MK Ultra II or whatever it is. Even if he didn't tell anyone, its a lot more risky to murder/disappear the chief of police than some guy who runs a restaurant.
