Foldable, lightweight bikes have existed for quite some time, there are even several foldable electric bikes. I understand that the point here is to have the bike be even more compact when folded than the competitors are, but I think it looks like there is too much sacrificed. The wheel dictates a lot of how much space a collapsed bike takes up. One solution several developers employ is making the wheels smaller, sacrificing torque and comfort, but these guys are instead making the wheel itself collapsible, probably sacrificing this and a whole lot more. The construction seems really rigid with solid tires and no form of suspension, and looks like it would be a literal pain in the rear end to ride on surfaces rougher than your living room floor. It also looks like it would be quite a hassle to fold in and out. Are they planning on having a locking mechanism on the telescopic bars? The tire sections would also have to rotate on the spokes to fold like that. I wonder how they would do that without risking the wheel becoming wobbly. Also, having the main joint of the construction carry the entire weight of the rider (on a loving lever!) without any kind of support whatsoever is the kind of thing that I think would make engineers cry and Archimedes' ghost haunt you forever. I admit I'm not an engineer, but holy gently caress neither are any of the people involved in designing that bike.

It's still an overpriced piece of hipster crap you could totally do yourself but honestly if they make a few bucks out of their old idea, more power to them.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/258723592/toasteroid-first-app-controlled-smart-image-toaste?ref=discovery So many projects are tough to place where they fall on the continuum of 'yes its pointless but still a really cool idea' vs 'this poo poo is just stupid'... I'd say this is one of those, trending towards the latter, because its an app controlled custom picture toaster (and you can send people toast messages lmao... Im picturing somebody leaving their spouse via a piece of toast). Its actually cheap enough that I'm considering it just out of the sheer ridiculousness of the concept

I'm wondering if anyone's overinflated their donations by pledging an amount for themselves just to spur interest, then, hours before the fundraising deadline, they pull their own pledge and collect that sweet, sweet, flex funding cash. We've seen fundraisers pledging their own money to get a project over that funding limit on Kickstarter, but with IndieGoGo's flex funding, you can still collect that money even if it fails to reach the funding goal and with the added benefit of no responsibility to deliver on a product.

Just came across this review of the FlyKly electric scooter completely by accident: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhyWzFjZhkc. Maybe this has been posted before somewhere but I don't recall seeing it, and it's definitely worth it. It's a "successful" KS project that collected about $400k to build the scooter after first collecting $700k to build the hub motor. Check out all the hipsters in the stock photos, classic KS stuff.
