canyoneer posted:Hah. I once heard an astronaut talk about life at NASA during the Challenger disaster. He was arguing with someone in management about how they should go forward after the accident, saying that they should prioritize actual safety stuff more than they do rather than launch anyway to hit the deadlines they promised. Pfffffft. The coal industry has been killing people for years and look where that got them.

Asbestos and tobacco have also shown that if you throw money at the right people you can kill people for decades, pesky research be damned.

Oh the climate will be just fine- it's just the climate being in a state we can survive in it that we have to worry about. The world has survived far worse than mankind and we are only killing ourselves.

If NASA were really running a scam to get funding from Congress, they'd probably be better funded than they are.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the funny graphs/charts thread, though earlier today whilst browsing the BBC site at work I came upon this article about Brian Cox (The Physicist) shooting down some Australian climate change denier who was blabbing on the usual anti-science crap, and when the "sceptic" said there was no scientific evidence for climate change Brian Cox pulled out a graph showing scientific evidence of climate change, anyway I really couldn't help myself take a screen grab and do this: It's worth watching the video in the article it's pretty funny watching the guy get flustered, and a big picture of a dick pretty much sums up Brian Cox's opinion of the poor dude.

Are we talking about goons who work at NASA? I think it eventually came out that this guy was just a janitor or something and had no reason to be strapped. Not even a space janitor, just a regular old earth janitor. No offence to the earth janitors out there.
