Oh boy, let's throw another failed bussniess venture on the pile for Drumpf.

WTNH.com posted:

Weicker predicts catastrophe for GOP in November

OLD LYME, Conn. (WTNH) — Former Connecticut Republican U.S. Senator and Independent Governor Lowell Weicker is predicting a blow out for the Democrats this fall. Not because they have a better candidate, but because Donald Drumpf is so bad.

Gov. Weicker is just as sharp and outspoken as he ever was. He says that the shake-up in the Drumpf campaign operation won’t make any difference.

“I think the campaign, as is the individual, is a disaster,” he told News 8.

The 85-year-old longtime politician bases his judgement of Drumpf on the dealings he had with the businessman when he was Governor and Drumpf wanted to build a casino in Bridgeport. Weicker had just concluded an exclusive profit sharing deal with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe for the Foxwoods Casino and told Drumpf his venture was impossible.

“He said, ‘Well they’re not Indians.’ And I said, ‘Really, why not?’ and he said, Because they’re not, they don’t look like Indians’…and at that point I called him a bigot, and he hasn’t changed his spots. He called me a fat slob and I haven’t changed my weight,” Weicker recalled.

The former Governor says it is what Drumpf has said during the primaries and in recent weeks that really turns him off.

“We’re a bigger and a better country than Donald Drumpf. I’m not here as a Hillary advocate, she obviously, she has some real shortcomings, one being; I think she’s very disingenuous,” he said.

Despite that, Weicker says he will vote for Clinton because he likes running mate Tim Kaine. He is predicting a catastrophic outcome in November for his old party.

“Hopefully, after this election, there’ll be a rebuilding of the party because, I think, the main consequence is not going to be losing the presidency; I think the Republicans are definitely going to lose the Senate and maybe even the House. It could be a clean sweep and if that happens that is what teaches the lesson to all would be Republicans or people like myself who are now Independents,” Weicker added.

J.R. Romano, the state Republican Party Chairman, says Weicker has been rallying against Republicans for 30 years ever since giving Connecticut the Income Tax.

“He was wrong about the Income Tax and he’s wrong about Republicans,” said Romano.

Can we revive "This loving Election"? I feel like it fits perfectly for this.

I just had a chat with a friend. He wanted to make a friendly bet who your next president would be. On the one hand he has a, not quite well founded, believe that Trump would win and doesn't actually trust any polls, or Hillary, for that matter.
But he insisted that we'd use the odds of betting sites (About 4:1), because otherwise I'd have arbitrage.
What would you say are "fair" odds?

On the one hand he's kinda right, because it is almost a zero expectation for me (I'd still give Trump a 20% chance to make it, just by virtue of how stupid a huge percentage of the US is.) But on the other hand, he doesn't believe the polls those odds are based on. If he believes that Trump winning chances are 90%, those odds should be way in his favor and he'd have no reason to demand auch a high payout.

What would you say is a fair compromise? He really hates Clinton, to the point of using the words "It was proven that she committed high treason." And as much as I hate to admit it, I think hes actually pro-Trump, rather than anti-Hillary.

I was lucky to have a $2500 bet on Hilary to win the presidency matched at 1.9 in the early days of the primaries (when sanders was still in and the republican race was an 8 person clown car).

I just call all of the people in those areas rurals because it's more reflective of the type of people they are. Much like actual rural areas, they're dependent as hell on the wealthier, denser-populated cities via transfer payments and economic ties to the greater world, but think everything bad in their life is directly tied to the closest city which of course looks like detroit.

Exurbs are the towns that are much less populated but oftentimes still in the donut counties, on the outer edges. This where true McMansions are built, and where faux rural white people congregate.

Neither term really has a formal definition but I feel like this fits for most cities, most of the time. When you try to make it work for enormous population centers like Chicago or LA it just falls apart because those are sprawling and all-consuming

I certainly remember that for 2012 because they were so sure the polls were skewed and Romney was gonna win that he hadn't even written a concession speech.

e; ^ :argh: But yeah Trump makes the Romney camp look like their only sins were a couple of ill-judged comments (47%, Binders full of women) and being a bit optimistic about their chances, which really, any campaign hoping to win should have because nothing keeps the voters at home like a candidate resigned to defeat. At the time it was heralded as a tremendously dysfunctional debacle, but the bar for that has been raised just a little of late.

An exurb is, like a suburb, intended primarily for people who will be living/working in a core city. Unlike a suburb, its overall density is low enough that it no longer counts as an urban area under the Census definition (where urbanized areas are defined as having a core area of at least 1000 people per square mile, which extends for as long as you can connect contiguous Census blocks of at least 500 people per square mile. Blocks can be considered contiguous if the population density isn't met between them so long as the intervening areas are parks, commercial zones, industrial areas, or things like airports).

An urban area must total to at least 2500 people who aren't in a prison or college or other residential institution.

Exurbs are often in a form where most of the town or whatever is farms or otherwise non-inhabited land, with sprinklings of typical suburban development, when they're not dedicated to having huge houses for rich people who can afford to commute from all the way out there.

Here is a fairly typical sort of exurban development, pan around and all that:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/S...7220017!6m1!1e1
The town it's in averages 114 people per square mile. When you leave this development through google street view, you're also running into a lot of ranch and farm land.

Here's a fairly typical sort of suburban development, also pan around and such, which is a little ways over in the same metro area (less than 10 miles away, even):
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.086...!7i13312!8i6656
This town averages 1,684 people per square miles. Notice how much closer together the homes are, even if they're not all that much smaller. It's easy to see how you have more than 10 times the population density.

Now let's move another couple miles inwards, to a suburban city:
https://www.google.com/maps/@40.076...!7i13312!8i6656
This city averages 3,239 people per square mile. It's not really important anymore, the last time it was important was the early days of the US as a country. It's the edge in itself of the densest suburban areas around Philadelphia - being part of a string of river-side towns that were the nucleus of development in the area, especially since it's where the first railroads went through in the 19th century. These days that rail line still exists and has passenger rail service again, which is leading to that town and the others along it (which includes the town just above this) further densifying, particularly around the rail stations. Driving into Philly sucks, after all.
