Perfect mix of old school Darkthrone while still paying tribute to all of the 80s metal that Fenriz so adores. Can't wait to hear more of it!

I still like Metallica and really like the new song. :3:

Short, sweet, and some good riffing. Lyrics and drums still as weak as the last two albums but, well, I've given up hoping for those improving.

Objectively, it's a pretty generic modern thrash song.

Non-objectively, it's Metallica playing thrash in 2016 and James finally remembered how to write a vocal part that's not beyond his ability. I'm loving stoked.

That album cover is hot garbage though.

I've listened twice, and I'd say it sounds like Metallica found a Kill Em All era demo, and re-recorded it.

It's not as good as anything from that era, but it's just structured like it.

The album name is not good, and that album cover is pretty atrocious.

That's pretty awful. Right on par with Death Magnetic.

Riot Bimbo
Dec 28, 2006

death magnetic was better than it had any right to be, but the only song I still isten to from it is Suicide & Redemption, because it has some cool guitar solos and I like the buildup. It's bewildering though, that Beyond Magnetic was the content they cut, because all four of those songs were better than ones that made the final cut.

Sir Lemming

It's a piece of JUNK!
"ManUNkind" hahaha

But I mean, a lot of their song titles suck, that's not really a deal breaker by any stretch. So far this sounds like good Metallica. Not great, yet.

I liked Death Magnetic quite a lot, but they could definitely stand to not make EVERY song a multi-part thrash epic. Needed a few shorter songs to break things up a little. So I guess this is one of those. (My own personal re-master / re-edit of DM shortens "Cyanide", in addition to being sourced from that Guitar Hero leak, obv.)

lol

I appreciate bands who can express a lot of ideas, coherently, and compactly. Gentle Giant were masters at that poo poo. Atheist too. Short songs don't inherently lack depth. In fact, good grindcore (for example) is pretty impressive compositionally - making songs that are distinct and do distinct things, in a short amount of time, is not trivial. The insistence that bands make their songs long leads to padding and repetition and laziness. Which is exactly what I expect from a completely corporate entity like Metallica at this point in time, so don't worry - their other songs will definitely "air things out" with as many riff repetitions as you could ever want!

That's fine, I just want to be able to enjoy the groove for ~5 minutes even if stuff gets repeated. I try not to replay tracks too often just so I don't get tired of them so when it flashes by I get left wanting more.
