CHOPS - The Rock and Roll Board Game is ending soon, with $3,088 of their $1,000 goal. Meanwhile, both Battle of the Bands: The Deluxe Edition and The Lords of Rock have 7 days to go. BotB has $6,703 of their $3,000 goal while TLoR has $23,362 of their $8,500 goal.

I'm more amazed that the one game that had such song titles like "You Give Aphrodite a Bad Name" and "For Those About to Ragnarok" has gotten the most money. :psyduck:

The unfortunate thing about Bitbox is that because it's not out on the market, the public can't aggregate data about what sort of box would fit with what games, so all those customization options are sorta useless unless you're really good about eyeballing volume (I am not).

Organization porn is probably my fetish though. Don't shame me.

I think they have a whole thing where you can message them on Facebook/YouTube and request a demo with a certain game. I think most of the videos they made demo'ing the Bitbox were from user submissions.

I hope they do figure something out for shipping, though I know I'll still be paying 100-200% over retail for shipping. Ah, such a beautiful island, 福爾摩沙.

Based on the extended whiny passive aggressive fart that has been all his posts I've seen elsewhere, I don't see any reason to give him the benefit of the doubt on that.

"Some rear end in a top hat won't communicate about his flat-lined Kickstarter" is a few steps short of "he's probably built an elaborate lie about a life-destroying illness."

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually ill. Maybe it even interferes with working on the project (though it feels like if he has energy to be all over Google+ as has been suggested, that ought to be translateable into writing RPG words). But communication is still important.

Is that reduction in shipping costs reflected on the main page? I'm interested, but the 15 pounds it's quoting me for shipping to Canada is eye-watering, and the Rest of World shipping update is backers-only.

While it's great that Codex is "early", I wouldn't go around praising Sirlin & how he's somehow figured out the magic formula for completing/shipping a project early that no one else can solve. I have a very strong feeling he's just good at planning and doesn't accurately represent the expectations he actually has for things to be complete; IE, he knows he needs 6 months, and quotes 9 for delivery. Either poo poo goes wrong and he's given himself a buffer to still be early/on time, or things go smoothly and he comes out unrealistically ahead of schedule like this. Either way he wins.

It seems like a really obvious thing, but it's just not something many campaign heads seem to do. Maybe it's a fear of over-quoting the delivery time and scaring people away with too long of a wait? Obviously there's a line somewhere in which that concern is valid; if someone says "Back today, and we'll deliver in 24 months!", your backer count is likely to suffer as a direct result, but tacking on an extra 2-3 months based on your production+shipping+fulfillment schedule seems like a no-brainer. The mental perception of "This new Project X is going to take approximately 3 months longer than comparable Project Y took" vs "Project X is delivering approximately 3 months later than originally quoted" is the difference between the reactions of "That's fine, whatever it takes to make the product good" and "WHAT THE gently caress WHERE IS MY GAME, I CAN'T BELIEVE WE WERE LIED TO, I'D LIKE A REFUND IMMEDIATELY AND AM NEVER GOING TO BACK ANOTHER ONE OF YOUR PROJECTS FOR HOW UNPROFESSIONAL THIS IS".

He explicitly says that he does this in the Codex update, and that the reason that Codex is shipping 3 months early is he hasn't used any of his 3 months of slack.

I suspect realistic contingency planning is a good idea yeah, and it's an even better idea to be upfront about it. "I'm quoting a delivery date of X, I have slack built into that schedule, if everything goes to plan I will ship earlier, but Chinese contractors and drop shippers are reliably unreliably so I am building some fat into it."

Given kickstarters are being used repeatedly by the same people/companies I suspect the more conservative way is the best way. If he scared a few backers away in his first kickstarter, he'll get them back with interest in later ones because he can point to a track record of on time or better shipping in the future.

Sadly, yes. It used to be £20! I'd love to be able to do a two-stage process where I ship all Canada orders to a warehouse then distribute from there (that's how I got US shipping so cheap), but I just don't have the Canadian backers to make that cost effective.

The best I can offer is that it's much cheaper per-unit for me to ship two copies to the same address, so if you have a friend who's interested you can pay half the shipping costs each. Alternatively the game will be available for Print-on-demand purchase from DriveThruCards once finished. Thanks for your interest anyhow!

Has anyone thought of using the basic essence of Far West and make their own game? There was obviously some level of interest, and I don't think there's been a game with the same general setting out there. Plus, it will make Far West not coming out even more funny if someone basically makes the game before Far West comes out.

I think one of our goon regulars was planning to do a Far West before Far West comes out just to show up GMS.

That effort might have stopped? But then there's still plenty of time to catch up regardless.

It was very much so, as best I understand it.

Six months after that (about a year ago, now), Mikan reemerged to mention that that supposedly the rules and most of the fluff for Last Stand: Reinforcements were complete and in to the project editor, and they were looking to complete the final art pieces. Heavy apologies were issued for them vanishing off the internet for the aforementioned reasons. A month later, they posted that a death in the family had delayed things, but that there would be an update next week.

That's the last that was posted, so the current state of the project is a mystery. I don't know if something else happened, but it's closing in on the year since the last update. Mikan went off the radar again, so I don't know if something else happened, if the harassment saw a new cycle or what.
