Which professions actually get brought to (pug) raids? It sounds like most of them aren't very desireable.
From what i can see you want 2 warriors, 2 druids, a herald and a chronomancer. What about the other 4? Will my Necro using the viper horror raid meta build be able to get pug raid spots? Would i have to be fully ascended since its not super desireable or would weapons/trinkets be enough?

I almost exclusively play open world meta events (SW and Maguuma Jungle) and am doing fine there with rares and exotics, but would also like to try a few pug raids. Mainly to unlock the HoT mastery as it is very demoralizing to play in Maguuma Jungle now and have all my xp "wasted". I am not that interested in nor really have the playtime to make ascended armor, so i am trying to see if there are any raid meta builds that has some overlap with what i enjoy playing for open world so that i can get ascended weapons and trinkets that suit both playstyles. (and not have to get ascended armor)
I have enough non bloodstone fens stuff to get full zerk trinkets and enough blood rubies to get 2 rings + neck + backpack for Viper, so both zerk and viper roles would suit me. Additionally my necro is my favorite open world profession so it would be convenient if i could also get into raid groups with it.

Honestly it mostly depends on the boss. For some encounters (all of Wing 2) necro is amazing and highly desired, for some (Wing 1, Escort, Xera) they can be quite useful and definitely find a spot but it depends on the group and their ideas about group comp, and for Keep Construct necro is pretty much useless and will only bring the group down. As for gear quality, with ascended weapons and trinkets you should be fine but you can't really avoid the fact that some groups will require full ascended armor just to feel safer.

So the embellished skins were all 1 ticket each when they were new, but with the Bloodstone skins having been released they've been kicked back to another room and now each cost 2 tickets. Surely this will happen with Bloodstone, but the current skins are already selling for nearly double of what the embellished TP's for. Is investing in this kind of thing with tickets a Thing, or is the return low enough over time that it's not worth the risk?

TeaJay

It's very much a thing, if you can sniff out which skins will be sought after. The embellished ones aren't that special so it's no wonder they were not expensive to begin with. Bloodstone weapons are already more expensive.

I'm not much of a long term gambler, so I used the 2 tickets I had for a quick profit towards my ascended stuff.

Harrow
Jun 30, 2012

It's definitely a thing, though I think it's less of a thing than it once was. Most skins never completely disappear from sale anymore (the earliest ones did, if I recall correctly), so they never quite reach the heights, price-wise, of earlier skins. They do get more expensive because they go up in ticket price, but they don't skyrocket because they remain technically available if you have the tickets for them.

But if you have a ticket, or spare gold, and you don't want to actually use a Bloodstone skin, grabbing one or two and sitting on them for a good while can make you some gold.

Based on idly keeping an eye on the TP, it seems like most black lion weapon sets start at ~100 gold per skin when they're new and then decrease in price as they remain available longer until they hit maybe 70-80 sell price and ~50 gold buy price. So that's also a factor in the bloodstone skins being more expensive than the previous set. They'll drop over the next few weeks. The trick is figuring out which ones will be most popular in the longterm so they'll rise the most once a new set or two is released.

This is how I make most of my non-gameplay money. I had a plot at one point which I can dig up that showed for the last few dozen sets of weapons that they pretty consistently decrease in price until they go off of the market, at which point they increase slowly. It's rare to get burned as the buy/sell price gap is generally close to the break-even mark to begin with. Ideally you'd have some idea of when the skins will be swapped out and put your buy orders in right before that. It's not as big of a money maker in the short term as it once was because everyone is doing it, but if you have a couple hundred/thousand gold it's a convenient return for little effort.

It also depends A LOT on how cool the weapon set is. The spectral weapons that were available a couple months ago are already worth a ton more than the poo poo loads of stupid loving Dwayna weapons i bought like six months ago, which haven't gone up in price at all.

shared inventory slots on sale, 15% off (2800 for 5 is now 2380 for 5)

copper salvage kit on sale too, 20% off (800 down to 640)

if you do not own the copper kit, buy it first. if you have a lot of gems left over, buy the 5 shared slots and put your new kit into it

Shared inventory slots should be like 300 at the most, but I am tempted to get some. So far having that one has been great because my copper-fed kit sits in there, but there have been a handful of times I really wanted at least one more for transferring my infinite pickaxe or AB exalted keys or something.

I don't know if 15% is enough for me to cave, though

previous shared slot sale was 20% off, but there won't be another one for a while

i forgot that people already have the one slot from buying heart of thorns, so if you have that you don't need more. it's really for super luxury dudes who have perma banks/merchants/tp

I only have one shared slot, the one they gave away free, and I put the copper-fed salvage kit in there. Best bang for buck. If I had the permanent bank access I guess I'd have to buy another.

I wish gemstore unlimited crafting tools would be truly account-wide in the sense that if you equip it on one character, it's there for everyone. I can't be arsed to keep swapping them around.

The PUG raid meta is 1 Warrior/Herald/Chronotank/Magi Druid with 6 DPS.

Ascended Viper Necromancer is a fine investment for getting into raids. Here is a meta breakdown for each boss:

Wing 1
Vale Guardian: Meta. Red Guardian mechanic requires condi damage, green circle requires ranged, and condi Engineer players are generally poo poo, so Necro is still very good here.
Gorseval: Meta. Epidemic and spirit holding utility now exceeds the value of average to sub-par Staff Elementalist stacking.
Sabetha: Meta, now that minions don't bug her out. Epidemic and extra condi damage modifier on Karde, and you can even kite the flak if you're feeling cheeky.

Wing 2
Slothasor: Meta. Trait Blood Magic for transfusion and spot healing, Corrosive Poison Cloud for the projectile destruction, and Epi the gently caress out of everything.
Trio: Meta, but you could also bring a ham sandwich and be meta.
Matthias: Meta. Again, option for Blood Magic, save teammates by pulling condis off them, and generally having enough HP to not die instantly like other Zerk power professions.

Wing 3
Escort: Meta. Hold a Warg, Epi some poo poo.
KC: Not desired. Not good Epi, burn phase highly favors spike power DPS.
Xera: Mostly desired, but it depends. At this point the PUGs for Xera are all leftovers from static raid groups so strategies vary case by case.

You can safely use copper-fed on anything green and lower. The only thing silver-fed gives you a better salvage return on is yellows (due to ecto chance), where it's equivalent to a master salvage kit/mystic salvage kit. If you use silver-fed on greens you're literally throwing money away, since the increased chance of mats/upgrades from greens/blues in no way makes up the cost/use difference.

It's really not that much of a DPS loss anyways. On all the Blood Magic potential fights the Necro shifts to a utility role while other professions DPS carry.

If two Druids with Search and Rescue isn't enough to keep people from dying in red fields, then I doubt the group will ever kill Matthias anyway. I don't see much useful utility from Blood Magic beyond Transfusion, so better to have Druids give up one utility slot than remove an entire useful trait line from Necro.
