OTON X:The First Artificial Intelligent Game Console
by Derrick Samuels

The OTON X is the first video game console to self-create game levels without human input.

Help us unleash a next-generation gaming console that pushes the limits of procedural content generation in ways never seen before!

Hello, my name is Derrick Samuels, and my team and I have created the world's first autonomous game console that can self-create game levels without human input.

How did we do it? Our proprietary software is 3 years in the making. We took a radical idea on paper and turned it into a fully working system. This version of OTON is strictly a high level developer unit. Each OTON unit will have onboard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and unlimited storage. The OTON X console takes the hassle out of buying games, loading games and trying to find something new to play. Every two months we will offer free updates, game assets and new mini levels to play on the OTON X system.

The OTON procedural content generation is a type of artificial intelligence that can create randomized levels and challenges, which forms the core of OTON X’s excitement and playability. Using our custom EnGeniux algorithm, the OTON X can take your general ideas and create its own immersive worlds.

Procedural content generation, refined – early testing shows that the OTON X can create 30 playable game levels per minute, more than ever before. Hours of re-playability – with procedurally-generated content, you’re never playing the same game twice.

this is definitively no scam, that was never (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/oton-game-console#/) crowd-sourced before, never ever(http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/10/3833080/oton-autonomous-game-console-crowdfunding), no way (http://tap-repeatedly.com/2012/12/crowdfunding-the-mysterious-oton-console/), in no capacity (http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/andrewg009/blog/buyer-beware-the-oton/97845/).

How do you dare to besmirch the name of Ex-Marine (https://about.me/derrickgb), inventor(http://battleclubgaming.com/2014/03/22/interview-oton-gaming-console/), project leader(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F6hX3NctYc) and author (https://www.amazon.com/OTON-X-Ultimate-Derrick-Samuels-ebook/dp/B00GP1JHHA) Derrick Samules?

Eh it's doable. I know a PhD student who has 2D platform level generation like that working. It's surprisingly good.

Doesn't really fit this use case though.

Sagebrush
Feb 26, 2012

procedural generation of game levels has been a thing for years. you don't even need a phd to write the code. for something as simple as a 2d platformer, where there are like 5 different actions and a 1-page rule set, it's trivial to make an infinitely scrolling playable randomized world.

however, i don't think that anyone would consider procedurally randomized game levels to be "self-created unique games" like the guy is claiming.

Procedural generation was used in games before it was called "procedural generation"

well obviously you set artificial clamps on the borders of those worlds when you generate, so if the player wants to go more area the have to go out to whatever menu and select "another" game.

toss in a generator for vertical and horizontal spaceship shooter levels, a generator for atari combatt type levels, and look you've got a modern action 52 on your hands!!

i don't know. i'll give you that it's possible to procedurally generate a whole unique game...for certain values of "game." i'm not gonna search jstor but i bet there are research papers on automatically generating new rules for card games or 8x8 grid games (a la chess), etc. creating a technically functional variation on a theme -- sure, that's possible. but that doesn't mean the game it comes up with is fun. i'm thinking about the various attempts at getting a computer to write jokes: yeah, they follow the format, but there's clearly a lot more to entertainment than that.

and procedural generation on its own sure isn't a compelling game. see: no man's sky, spore

yeah that's what I meant when I said it was somewhere between insane and idiotic, because it would be unlikely to produce something worth playing. procedural generation has been used as a crutch for lazy developers and isn't fun or interesting when it's applied to the wrong theme or genre (for instance "we happy few", a great premise for a scripted linear game that was wasted on a procedurally-generated open world crafting survival game) so generating entire games at random would be very unlikely to generate anything worth playing.

I mean yeah if it was pulled off you'd never run out of games to play, but as it is you'll never have enough time in your life to play anywhere close to every human-developed game even if games stopped being made today.
