Nope, even in the resorty parts of Hawaii you won't pay more than $3000 for a 2bedroom unless you're getting a furnished luxury beachfront penthouse with maid service and stuff.

I think we're getting a not honest view of the situation. I think their rent is that high, but by no means is it an average rent. I think they live in a luxury or gated type place and consider it to be average.

Santa Barbara: https://santabarbara.craigslist.org/search/apa

Even in the student neighborhood adjacent to campus (basically slums, and not actually in SB), rent is typically at least $1000 per bedroom, nearly $2000 if it's ocean-front.

he judge let her go uninterrupted in her bunk rear end story as she spun wondrous lie after lie. she made up numbers for damages she claims I caused. She said I owe $5000 for a boat that she was having me work on. Well here is the funny thing in my state. As an unlicensed marine mechanic I am not responsible for your boat, I also did not sign a contract stating that any damages will be covered by me. The best part is. There is no damage. It's just disassembled. she claimed in court to be able to rebuild carbs & that the carburetor was the only problem, yet she told me the transom was bad, & water got into the engine oil, ect. ect. well in her counter claim she said the price was $6000. I also have her on video screaming it is $5000. - My lawyer made sure to point out how her numbers seem to change with each telling of her story

You fool! You've fallen for my trap! You can't sue me for damage to the boat, as I'm not a boat mechanic!

quote:

So I get there with a friend and a police escort. Her boyfriend and son whipped out there phones to record me, and drat it all, I had mine out and ready to take inventory. Well, first things first. WHERE IS MY GOD drat PC!? And as I am using a tiny little notebook to make this, I clearly didn't get it. I asked several times "Where is my PC? Where is my PS4? This is not all of my things. Where is the rest of it." I was told this is all i had there & I took the rest that Tuesday. I reminded them there is a police report that contradicts their claim & they where ordered to return it at 1030 that morning. Well, the officer there told me to get my things and leave or he was going to get me for trespassing. Of course I have it all recorded, its what i do. So I leave and take my things to my new place. Well, minus a PS4, PS3, and PC. Well, my mom calls and disowns me claiming all I do is poo poo on the family, & how dare I do this to them.

Yeah, mom disowned me because my aunt stole my ps4. I have a feeling we're not getting the whole story.

So I thought this was all going to be GWM - he had gotten the manchildren over at imgur all riled up with this story of injustice where a family member maliciously stole his ps4 and cast it into the fires of mount doom and now he could create a gofundme with which to sap the rubes of their money.

Because the husband prefers the "bury his head in the sand and pretend everything's fine" strategy.

quote:

He wants to stay in the condo. He does not really have a good picture of our finances because ... sigh ... he is a good man who works hard, but he cannot cope with money issues. (This is a whole other issue.) It is basically on all my shoulders and ultimately my decision to make. He absolutely refuses to sit down with me and learn the reality, but he knows the broad strokes

And because they're terrified there won't be jobs if they move, even though one of them has lacked full-time work for four years where they are now:

quote:

Indeed. Yes, we would move if our kids weren't doing so well in school; also, we do have jobs here. Who knows if we could find jobs elsewhere?

quote:

Yes, you're right about maybe having halfway given up. I am employed part time as an adjunct, which is a good position. I need to get focused and serious about applying for full time.
I guess I was wrong about her somehow not getting a job at all in those four years, but part-time adjunct really should have been a stopgap while she kept looking for full-time work.

TIFU by blowing $10,000.

quote:

Today I hosed up, big time. I have been trading currencies for around 3 months and was getting good results (maybe beginners luck who knows). I decided to go the next step and borrowed $10,000 from the bank so I could put on bigger trades and hopefully get bigger profits.

After a week I made $4,000 in one day (in a few hours) in a great trade. After that I thought I was invincible and kept getting bolder and bolder with my trades. Needless to say today I lost it all, including the $10,000 which I borrowed from the bank. In one day. Gone.

I'm 28, casually employed and have no real assets. I feel like my gut has been wrenched from inside out and I also had to break the news to my girlfriend whose birthday is just around the corner.

Pretty huge gently caress up, one of the biggest in my entire life.

So maybe I have no concept of how currency trading is, but wouldn't you have to make a crap-ton of trades in one day on small margins to go up 40% in one day, as well as do the same thing but just lose every time to lose 100% of your 14k in one day?

It's Australian terminology; it means you have a schedule that alternates week to week rather than normally being rostered for set shifts, and the employer will sometimes call you if a shift opens up to cover for someone, etc. By legislation, you get paid a bit extra for the inconvenience and lack of PTO, sick days, etc. I am a regular part-time employee but my pay jumps from $27/hr to $32/hr when I come in to cover a shift on my day off, thanks to getting the casual loading rate for it.

Don't get me wrong, I still have a laugh at the terminology sometimes. I once saw a position for "casual boner" (at a chicken processing plant) advertised...

I could never understand how anyone could see Forex/penny stocks as a viable means of making a living. All of these traders (like gamblers) will only tell you how much money they've made- never how much they've lost. And they're all too happy to dispense super-sketchy investment "advice" at the water cooler just to stroke their ego.

And his $10K leveraged trade is bonkers. I'm really curious as to what type of loan/credit he took out to do this. Because most (reputable) banks will refer you to specific credit products that are geared towards leveraged trading, and even then they make you sign off on a whole bunch of disclaimers about how you understand the significantly magnified risk of leveraged trades. And you sure as heck wouldn't qualify for any "normal" $10K credit product if you were "casually employed".
