Reminder that beloved psychic Sylvia Brown told Amanda Berry's mom "I'm sorry but your daughter is dead" on the Montel Williams Show.

She was found alive, kidnapped for 10 years.

Amanda Berry's mom died a couple years before her daughter was found, so she went to her grave thinking her daughter was dead because Montel Williams needed the good ratings that Sylvia Brown brought.

now that's remarkable.

my diatribe was actually two "things that happened" at the same time: 1. the first time a ball was thrown through a hoop (unknown date) and 2. the emergence of team sports and the cultlike following they have had throughout history:

quote:

There were initially four major factional teams of chariot racing, differentiated by the colour of the uniform in which they competed; the colours were also worn by their supporters. These were the Blues, the Reds, the Greens, and the Whites, although by the Byzantine era the only teams with any influence were the Blues and Greens. Emperor Justinian I was a supporter of the Blues.

quote:

From the start, the crowd had been hurling insults at Justinian. By the end of the day, at race 22, the partisan chants had changed from "Blue" or "Green" to a unified Nίκα ("Nika", meaning "Win!!" or "Conquer!"), and the crowds broke out and began to assault the palace.

quote:

Justinian, in despair, considered fleeing, but his wife Theodora is said to have dissuaded him, saying, "Those who have worn the crown should never survive its loss." Justinian rallied himself. About thirty thousand rioters were reportedly killed.

As for the CEO who doesn't think water should be a human right, Bill Burr had a hilarious rant about him:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_pb6r8VNWk

"He should be hunted down and shot!"
(I'm sure there's people calling Bill Burr a violence-inciting socialist for this one).

Even funnier is Nestle's website addressing the controversy.

They claim that wasn't what he meant, and he meant the opposite! That it isn't fair that other countries don't get water!
Except they selectively chopped up the important parts. LOL at a company trying to defend this:

Nestle's current CEO posted:

"It’s a question of whether we should privatize the normal water supply for the population. And there are two different opinions on the matter. The one opinion, which I think is extreme, is represented by the NGOs, who bang on about declaring water a public right. That means that as a human being you should have a right to water. That’s an extreme solution. The other view says that water is a foodstuff like any other, and like any other foodstuff it should have a market value." He added, "Personally, I believe it's better to give a foodstuff a value so that we're all aware it has its price, and then that one should take specific measures for the part of the population that has no access to this water."

Boy Nestle, our face sure is red and we totally read that the wrong way!

quote:

When the Aztecs started a new settlement, there were two things they would do. First, build a shrine to the god Huitzilopochtli, and then build a ball court next to it. In Tenochtitlan it was surrounded by the palace and temple. The Aztec ball game, known as ullamaliztli, was a priority.

quote:

With city-states and tribes playing against one another, it's not surprising that the Aztec ball game took on political significance. A win or a loss was very much taken to heart. At times, the game would turn into an excuse for an assassination or attack. The game might also be used to settle differences between two parties.

quote:

The Aztec ball game had a lot of ritual significance. It was mean to mirror the ball court of the heavens, this being the ball court of the underworld where the sun passed each night. The game represented the battle between day and night, and so was also related to the human blood sacrifices that were intended to keep the sun moving in the sky.

It is said that the ball represented the head of a sacrificed victim. In Tenochtitlan, the ball court was at the foot of the blood stained stairs of the temple, and the ball game itself would often be a scene of sacrifice. It is believed that the losing coach, or even the whole team, might be sacrificed. Some historians have disputed this - because it was an honour to be sacrificed, it may have been the winning team that lost their lives.

Also IBM provided the computers and the technicians (since the Germans couldn't figure their stuff out) that made rounding up minority groups for the holocaust possible! IBM brought modern solutions to slice through a record-keeping/indexing gordian knot.

It's even more hosed than that, at the time IBM computers ran off punch cards. Each piece of data required a punch card that was purchased from IBM. Those cards were used to track Holocaust victims and were tied to the numbers that were tattooed on their wrists. So you could say that IBM facilitated and profited from each individual victim.

But during the same war IBM's USA division made computers for the Allied effort and even made M1 carbines. After the war they did reunite with their german division and get the money that was made inside Germany so you could argue the USA company did profit from the Holocaust.

If you look hard enough you can find all kinds of messed up poo poo. For example Bayer built labs using concentration camp slave labor and then tested drugs on the camp prisoners.
