I was thinking of making a chain coif, because the only plate helm that looks good, and isn't a backer reward, is the bucket helm. But you can't masterwork bucket helms, which is bullshit.

So a full suit of meteoric chain/plate is the way to go, with item resistance being the choice every time you get one when you masterwork it?

Meteoric chain armor, yeah. Bronze is also quite good, providing a third the resistance of meteoric in addition to +% weapon damage. White iron provides avoid on stuff in your hands so white iron weapon/shield might be the way to go if you want defense, not sure of relative value. As previously mentioned, don't use white iron on armor. Masterworking avoidance onto the gear is also the way to go if you can swing it, not resist.

I decided to buy an Artisan's Tool of Plenty from the public vendor in Owl's Head because I only see them going up in price as time goes on. I used the two I got for backing the game on smelting tongs and a smithing hammer. What should I pick? Refining or production make the most sense to me because those burn through durability. Gathering tools last a lot longer, plus you can engrave them to make them better, somehow.

So should I do a refining or production tool (probably carpentry,) or complete the set of metalworking with a pickaxe?

Mild versions of them, not like the 30% harvest speed increase of the gold engraving I just put on my regular pickaxe.

I spent cash money on the prosperity harvesting tools way back and was always glad I had unbreakable tools. Never cared what if any other bonuses they had, just that I never had to carry spare pickaxes or whatever.
No regrets!

Crafting tools? I have 4 prosperity ones, a mix of reward and others I purchased off player vendors. Hard to say what's best - that really depends on what you like making lots of.
For me the tailoring scissors and smithing hammer get the most use by far.

I think my main issue is deciding if I should use the reward to get a gathering tool, or a refining or production tool. I'm thinking I shouldn't use it on a gathering tool since their durability wears away slowly, plus they can get seriously beefed up with tool engravings.

Speaking of the engravings, can they be used on production or refining tools as well as gathering?

Gathering is the best convenience thing if you're going to spend a couple hours adventuring and don't want to worry about ducking back to town. Then again if it's just the one item get a smithing hammer. Everyone smiths eventually.

I think so? I've never engraved anything because I already have all those shiny indestructibles and any other bonuses aren't important to me at the moment.

I just got a copper crown of the obsidians from a 4 skull bandit! :sparkles:

Can you make exceptional parts of armor (straps, sheets, etc)? And if so, does it affect the outcome of the final product?

No difference whatsoever. Only an exceptional [final product] gets that +1 bonus of 50 extra durability.

It used to have good stuff I believe but then they wiped it because people were speed-running for cash.

So, hi, learned some poo poo in the discord channel today:

- The "item resistance" stat provided by iron & provided extra via meteoric iron is actually a % increase to the "resistance" value of your gear, which is a good stat. A really good stat. If you take a full hit, the damage is reduced by the absorption % of your gear, up to a maximum of the resistance value. That means that increasing your resistance value is key to getting good value from your gear's absorption at high levels.
- Chain is flat better than plate. Plate has 9% more avoidance (which is quite good), and ~15% higher absorption (which is quite good at first and then becomes irrelevant once mob damage starts to get some distance from your resist value). But not only does chain have better resistance, but it has much, much lower fizzle and many high level spells provide better defensive stats than plate.
- Also, coils & sheets provide the same stats to gear, despite sheets costing 50% more materials. Also, a suit of epic chain has more coils than a suit of epic plate has sheets, meaning a full suit of chain has a higher +% resistance than a full suit of plate. And since it provides more resistance to begin with, chain is just flat better.
- Also atos apparently makes balance judgment based on player behavior and since plate is still more popular by a lot, he expressed an intent to buff chain in the near future a few days ago on discord.

So don't use plate, it's really dumb.

Haven't been able to find the recipes in or out of game for the epic chain set, only the standard or augmented sets. Anyone got a link to them? Usual sites of sotacraft and the wiki have no reference to them that I can find.

I apologize, there is no epic chain, there's only regular & aug. Word on the street is that to maximize mats you want boots and gloves, regular everything else btw.

I wonder how they will handle it. I'm sure it will affect your standing with the oracle. Personally, I hope a guard teleports to your location and instagibs you, and puts the item back. This way, if you want to steal something, you need to either be a thief and sneak + steal, or wait until the NPC has left the room.

It's kind of fun right now to look for items to decorate your house with, sort of like a scavenger hunt. And of course you can rob blacksmiths and reduce their inventory to scrap right in front of them.

I've literally never stepped inside a POT and I don't think I am missing out on anything. I'm guessing they are completely empty scenes save for one or two buildings that some neckbeard spent hundreds of dollars on, thinking his town is special and will be the main hub of the game. Do I have it right?

Some of them are genuine communities of like minded people who play together and have a great time.

Some are hubs of drama.

Some are barren wastelands.

Not keeping a close eye on the POT subforum of late I do know that all the custom static ones (non dynamic POTs) are literally made to order but the fulfillment list for Portalarium is pretty long by this point because they sold a lot more than expected.
Any locked POT submission form with a custom static build will basically be completely wiped when built by the designer, so I imagine any POT owner getting one of those (majority? I don't know) isn't even using them at this time.
We're not talking "just move the trees and rocks around", this sort of thing would be "I want this different map template orientated this specific way to the compass, this manner of fixed lot distribution, these vague features, etc."

in other, unrelated news, devs have realized that death decay was broken in r33. Good news for me since I respecced to polearm two weeks ago and there were some bad times. If that was with decay broken I imagine that things could have been a whole lot worse.

By the way, the experience of respeccing in this game is pretty trash. I unlearned bow/light armor/air magic down to the floor including using my obsidian book on draw strength. The amount of XP I got was pretty respectable, but running around with level 10 skills and an adventurer level of 30 or so because of the XP floor is a deeply lovely experience until you push through into the deep 40s. Cons are still utterly worthless because I have a few dozen adventurer levels I'm not using but I at least have a mental map of what I can fight now.
