Does anyone have any advice for escort missions? The orks just rush my transports ignoring and I don't have enough firepower to stop them before they get there.

Send half of the transports on one side of the map, and send the rest on the other side. Protect one side with your full fleet. Generally seems to work pretty well for me against the AI. Burn hard to intercept them before they get to your protected transpos, and sometimes you get lucky with 80% of them going for your unprotected guys so you just coast to victory.

Counter ram them away from your transport. The only way they can easily kill your transport is by ramming you. Save some fuel gauge on your transport so you can boost out of the way.

Stasis bombs can also slow down Orks a bit, best to use after they pressed their Big Red Button. Transports can use Reload to refill their combustion gauge quicker. Brace for Impact also helps the transports be more durable.

Ranked Matches

All Ranked Matches will take the form of a 1v1 Best of Three (BO3) format.

Each player is given an equal number of points (8000 Renown) to create whatever fleet they want. All Ship Slots are unlocked at the creation of a Ranked profile, and every ship added to a Ranked fleet will automatically be set to the maximum level. This fleet can be rearranged before a battle, and any Skills, Upgrades or Favours are refunded in their entirety if players wish to change their fleet composition.

Fleet persistency (ship damage, destroyed ships, lost in warp, etc.) is applied during each BO3, but NOT between BO3s. Matches can be won, lost, or abandoned (which will result in an automatic loss).

The BO3 format will take place over the following steps:

First Battle: Player A chooses the mission (eg. Space Station Assault, Convoy, Data Recovery, etc).
After the first map is played, all ships destroyed will not be able to be selected for the next matches and those that are heavily damaged will not be available for the second battle.
Second Battle: Player B chooses the mission.
Again, any ships destroyed or heavily damaged in the second map will not be selectable in the third map.
Third Battle: If players are tied 1:1, a Cruiser Clash game will decide the winner.
The first player to win two matches gains ELO for their ranked admiral!

Based on this format, players will need to be very careful not to lose their best ships during the first match!

Ranking System and Leaderboard

The ranks of Admirals will be divided by leagues – separate for each Admiral of a player. Each league will be composed of a certain percentage slice of the current total ranked Admirals.

Your ELO ranking will determine which percentage and league your Admiral will fall into.

There are six leagues:

Bronze – Players fall within top 100% to 50% ELO ranking
Silver – Players fall within top 50% to 30% ELO ranking
Gold – Players fall within top 30% to 15% ELO ranking
Adamantium – Players fall within top 15% to 5% ELO ranking
Epic – Players fall within top 5% to 1% ELO ranking
Legend – Players fall within top 1% to 0% ELO ranking

A leaderboard will also be implemented in-game. This displays the best Battlefleet Gothic: Armada players, detailing information such as their Admiral Name, Player Name, Rank, Faction, League and ELO number.

The leaderboard can be filtered to display only specific factions and leagues.

Here’s how it looks in-game right now (note that this is taken from the debug version and subject to change):

(screenshot found in the link above)

The patch is coming next week, and will include Ranked Matches, Leagues and the Leaderboard.

Next week’s patch will also allow more fleet points in 2v2 matches – something that has been commonly requested by the community. The total fleet points in Cruiser Clash have been raised from 700 to 800 under the following modes:

Custom Game 1v1
Custom Game 2v2
Multiplayer 2v2

We’ve also been busy squashing bugs – a full list of dead bugs will be listed in the patch notes next week!

See you in the Gothic Sector,

Velociraptom

Ooo, this looks great. Maybe playing against equal ranked players will stop all the loving qq'ing I get. I took the opportunity of marine proliferation to rank up a Chaos fleet and gosh those guys got salty.

Playing chaos was really interesting for me because back in the early few patches people had a lot of counters to Chaos but a lot of those have been forgotten or fallen off as people prep against different things. Chaos have a really simple and profound weakness though: Detection radius. They have no torpedoes and they're quick but not that quick, so to really get the most out of their 15K lances they need to approach slow and gracefully like ships of the line. I played one Marine guy who used silent running and some really clever movement to flank me with two battleships and it was a crushing defeat.

My chaos composition is 1x Despoiler BB, 2x Acheron BC, 1xHellbringer mk2 LC. I form up a line of battle with the BB in front and everything else in a row behind it - that lets the BB cover my entire fleet with its fighters and basically immunises me against torpedoes (it takes a little micro to keep your ships in a straight line formation but that's fine, what else you doing during approach). I always come in from the side of the battlefield with the least nebula clouds. If the enemy is in a bad formation and doesn't have any clouds nearby I'll fire off an augur probe around 20K otherwise I slowboat a bit further in and lay down an augur beacon.

After making visual contact, I halt the BB and break both BCs off left and the LC right. The LC is bait; its job is to draw out a ship or two and slam them with assault boats/bombers/daemon strikes at the engines. The BB sits there and soaks damage while the BCs swan back and forth firing lance broadsides and picking off ships smallest to biggest. If the other guy has to boost across 15K of open ground while getting shot at by three ships worth of lances, and then engage a big fat BB with supercharged void shields in melee then odds are they hosed.

It all feels very Nelsonian, which was a very relaxing change. I really love this game and how radically different all the races feel.

When the Host uses the "Running Silent" order, the guest sees the "Lock On!" special order icon.
The Imperium Space Station weapons range is not displayed correctly.
Sometimes, the guest can't see the enemy ships in a gaz cloud.
A rare crash might hapenned between two round of a Ranked.

Ranked game sounds very interesting and it kind of fixes the problem with having to level your fleet up to max level in order to have a competitive footing. However, I am afraid it will split the already kind of small MP community. Hopefully by the time the Tau fleet comes out it would rejuvenate the player base.

Orks are still good though??? The zzap nerf in particular was justified by virtue of zzap fleets being pre-nerf Voidstalker levels of overpowered.

The zzzapp nerf was warranted but Orkz outside it just feel mediocre still.

SM took over their role as the boarding race and the repeated nerfs have made orkz terrible bruisers where that is supposed to be their thing.

Yeah I agree, Orkz need a bit of brawling love. The Fire + Hull Damage from the patch before really hosed with their survivibility in a bad way. Hopefully one of the patches puts them somewhere other than either extreme.

So I've been trying out Space Marines in unranked multiplayer and they seem interesting. Low HP but high armor, decent speed I guess and lots of boarding options.

The homing boarding torpedoes are kind of derpy and I've hosed myself over accidentally having them swerve into me occasionally. The change to making a lot of crits just temporary is kind of a bummer also; the only benefit it has is that you'll probably want to hold off activating emergency repair until you have multiple fires/temp crits going to get the most out of the ability.

Any advice for upgrades and favors? Its cool they can reduce enemy troop values with Lightning strikes. Having boarding torpedoes definitely seems handy, since you can Thunderhawk+boarding torpedo enemy capital ships to try to overwhelm their defenses.

It's certainly the one that is the least situational. It's just straight up "everything is better" that's good for every mission type. And yeah master of the forge is amazing too - I put that one on a cruiser and just kitted it out for tankiness and crit-resistance. You get cruisers quickly and the favor cost for them isn't too high (although the forge does sink a ton of renown through upgrade costs if you decide to put it on something else later).

A shame about the models and far more conventional navy (GW original Tau would have required a far more interesting progression curve and fleet design), but at least they're colourful and different. I like what did with Space Marines but there's so many Imperial and Imperial style ships in the game it needed something different and Tau are certainly that. Even saw some Auxilliary ships the other screenshot.

That was the point - their space aesthetic was basic, utilitarian because they were new to ship building. Which also made their fleet doctrine really unique. And just scaling up their tanks (which is essentially what FW did in terms of art direction) is just a boring look - imagine if all Imperial ships were just bigger land raiders. FW really dropped the ball on these because they could have made the old elongated blocky classic sci-fi ships fit the tau aesthetic instead of just making them all manta rays and flying wings.

Still good for BFGA though.

Lots of Unique upgrades and systems:
-You can choose between Mon'ka (Killing Blow) or Kauyon (Patient Hunter) at the beginning of a battle. Mon'ka givess you better boarding and crit chance while Kauyon give you better accuracy as long as you are not detected.
-Instead of battlecruisers, Tau get Auxiliary ships, including Kroot Warsphere and Demiurg stronghold and fortress, each has some unique weapon and movement rule.
-They have a lot of unique upgrades, including one that gives frontal shield 75 armor, one that allows all defensive turrets to deal damage, and another upgrade that increases defensive turret range to go with that.
-Their standard torpedo is heavy seeker missile, which is a tracking torpedo that has a limited flight time.

Sounds good, I'm putting the game down on my list for future purchases. Still, having no real campaigns for the other factions is kind of weird, that's like having Supreme Commander with only the UEF campaign and the other factions reduced to skirmish and multiplayer. They've hinted we haven't seen the last of the imperial commander from the campaign and that tyranids are coming. I'd bet on an expansion of some sort that'll hopefully add some other race campaigns.

EDIT: \/ Honestly I'd love a Dark Crusade style sandbox campaign myself. Give us the sector map and a home base per faction, then just use the skirmish rules to generate missions.

They aren't going to rewrite the Gothic war to let Chaos or the Orks to win. Eldar actions were also too limited to make a campaign. This is stuff that is set in stone. It's more like playing Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty as Zerg, or Heart of the Swarm as Terran, though that is a weaker example since while they are story heavy, their story wasn't written before the game came out.

Did some skirmish and Eldar still do decent. AI wasn't the sharpest naturally but they still did some damage with the old beam of death. I will have to see if you guys are playing later and bring my Orkz out again. Oh yeah..... Tau ramming Eldar: they still win. Don't ram Orks or Oomies.

Fast Cruisers talk: 105 for a nice fast cruiser or 175 for a nice fast cruiser with two "ok" escorts free. Interesting. I like that Tau are pretty much fast frontal assault at 9k and under right now. Took the lock on perk with added range and jesus they can melt poo poo. Just keep your ships facing front if you can.
