So long as your tactical consoles match your energy weapon damage type (or if you're that level, you grab fleet Beam CrtH consoles from the Spire, if you like mixing energy weapon damage types), you're fine.

You can get lesser purple versions of these tac consoles from repeating the mission Terminal Expanse.

So I just came back and last time I came back I bought a science pilot escort and now I am finally getting it equipped. I did sphere of influence twice to get the 2 very rare items. Which I guess was a warp core and a ancient beam thingy. I still need 2 fore weapons which I think should be dual antiproton beam banks? I also need all my consoles. So I read a few posts ago I can get tactical consoles from that terminal expanse quest. Is there any specific ones I should or just gets ones that match my weapons over and over? Where can I get science and engineering consoles?

You are on the right starting track, keeping to 1 energy type (Antiproton) + one weapon type (Beams). You definitely need more stuff to put on your ship. Do you have any reputations maxed out ? How much fleet credit do you have, if any ? Dilithium ? There are Tac consoles in the Fleet Spire holding that are better than anything you can get from a mission or off the Exchange. If you feel the need to do Terminal Expanse a few times, you'd pick the Directed Energy Distribution Manifold Mk XI as the reward. Just be aware those will be for temporary use only as they aren't that good. If you get into the in-game channel, you can ask questions & maybe get some free goodies from nice people. Running with White Mk X stuff is not a good situation to be in.

For anyone just gearing up, the difference between the +beam spire consoles and the +damage_type consoles is pretty minimal. I would recommend getting +beam consoles so that you can run with any color beams you want, and change anytime without buying/upgrading all new consoles.

I wish I had done this but I rushed to buy all my consoles early when there weren't a lot of options for special beam types.

I have zero reputation of any kind. I have basically no EC and no dilithium. I do have 15,000 zen I could trade for some dilithium from lifetime sub. I have barely any fleet credits as well. If I could just buy some gear so I am not so weak that would be nice.

[pla] science consoles from the fleet embassy are usually pretty good if you want to do damage, but you'll have to score some fleet credits before you can buy them. Engineering console slots are often filled with universal consoles, like Plasmonic Leech, which you can get from the exchange.

Start working on at least iconian rep, and probably the omega and nukara reps as well, since pugging ISA and CCA is easy and fast. Run mirror normal to get iconian marks for the next week, run ISA for omega rep, and if you want you could also run CCA for nukara marks. The ISA and CCA queues pop fairly quickly, and are usually full of enough high-DPS players to carry you. Running a single one will get you the marks + daily rewards marks, which should be enough for 2 or 3 days worth of rep projects, so you don't need to run them all every day.

Each day you should do the daily rep project. It'll take 40 days to get to Tier 5, so you want to start now. When you finish T5 you'll get enough marks/dil to buy a single piece of rep gear. If you've been doing the STFs fairly often, you'll probably have enough to buy even rep gear. You want the 4-piece iconian space set, the kinetic cutting beam from Omega, and the assimilated console from Omega. Just putting those on will make a large difference in how well your ship survives and kills other stuff.

For consoles, you'll ideally want the spire tactical vulnerability locators, +beam. As many as you have tac slots in your ship. For science consoles, you want the Plasma-Generating Weapon Signature Nullifier Mk X [DrainX], again as many as you have sci slots. For engineering, you want Plasmonic Leech (buy it from the exchange, or beg alms in channel) and any decent universal consoles you have.

For weapons, get whatever you want. The exchange usually has almost perfect weapon mods for dirt cheap (i.e. a [pen][crtd]x3 might be 75m ec, while a [pen][crth][crtd]x2 will be 75k ec). You can ask in channel if any crafters have any leftover junk too.

Once you have all that, you can start asking about upgrading advice (don't upgrade rarity unless you hate yourself/your money) and starship traits to look for.

ISA = Infected Space Advanced, CCA = Crystalline Catastrophy Advanced. First one is a Borg queue that just about anyone in the game knows how to do, 2nd is a shoot crystal thing repeatedly until done event. Both are on the reasonably easy end of the difficulty scale, therefore pubs have a lesser chance of loving them up.

Hi guys. I have too many kids and not enough free time and I am on my eKnees asking for your help getting STO to run on my laptop. It's a pretty new ASUS....something I bought like a year ago for around $1300 off newegg so it's probably not a total piece of poo poo. I'm running Windows 10 with an nvidia card. I've tried added that string of code that bypasses directx 11 to the options in the launcher and I've tried running in safe mode and I've tried launching from Steam vs the game exe and god I only get an hour of leisure time per day and I'm on day three of trying to get this game to run properly. Is there a magic bullet to convince this game to run without a bunch of flickering, static, and crashing?

Settings as in the properties menu when you right-click the exe? I can't seem to find it there or in the game options. Really sorry if I'm just being dense, I freely admit I'm usually a console gamer that's out of his depth.
