Guess what, that wasn't built with public funding!!!!!

The argument isn't whether ballparks are good for the city, it's whether the city and taxpayers should pay for them and literally everything points to saying they shouldn't. The burden to clear is that there's not better municipal investments that you should pay with. Like for example in the Vegas case, an expansion of the convention hall because guess what conventions are in Vegas year round.

Finally the idea that any part of SF wouldn't have been developed regardless of a ballpark given what's going on with real estate there is hilarious.

yes, I know and it's irrelevant. One of the main arguments against public funding of stadiums is that the revival that can take place in the surrounding area is a myth.

It's basically a luxury tax on out of towners. I have no issues with it and will be voting yes. Lol, have you ever even been to SF? I lived and worked there but please, give me your re-development plan for the city.

The entire argument against stadiums is not that it doesn't lead to positive outcomes for cities and neighborhoods because of course it does since you're throwing money at the neighborhood. It's that building stadiums for rich owners is possibly the least efficient way to do so.

Yes it's a luxury tax on out of towners but again the point is for the city as a whole there are better choices of how to spend that tax revenue. At the end of the day if you want to vote for a stadium that's your right and obviously if you post on a football forum your utility function is pretty unique and you'll benefit a lot more from the stadium than the average person in Vegas so it makes sense. It just doesn't for the city as a whole and I don't know why people continue to try and argue that it does.

At least more and more people are becoming aware of the issue

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed shitposting.
When Howard Schultz was demanding a new basketball arena for the Sonics, there was a study done showing it was a net drain on the immediate neighborhood for the old one, because most people going to the game just go, then leave without spending money anywhere else, and it fucks traffic for the entire city and parking for the immediate area, so people not at the game were less likely to go out and eat or shop.

Hey guys, goon project idea. I want to get a pad in Malibu. I don't have much cash, but if you give me yours I can get the best drugs, the biggest amps, the hottest bitches, and a house big enough for every one of you to spend the night at once for a massive rager. I just need each of you to pay me monthly for 20 years.

When can you come over? After you pay more of course, duh. :rolleye: You can't just come over to my house whenever you want.

I find the stadium shitshows fascinating. Same goes with the whole hoopla over the Olympic or World Cup cities that almost always lose money. It's not like there's a dearth of examples to look at and see the results of building these things, but every time people get convinced that the outcome is going to be different somehow.

The people in city government making the decision to build using public money are almost certainly seeing benefit in the form of prestige, free tickets after the fact (or invites to the owner's suite and team functions) so it's not surprising to me it keeps happening despite all the evidence it's not the best move for the rest of the city.

Or you can use the newspaper you bought to conduct 'interviews' in order to see where they stand on the stadium that's for internal use only

You make some good points but another issue I have with your argument is that the money can be better spent elsewhere. I mean, this is city and county governments we're talking about. I don't expect them to spend the money wisely at all. No, we don't need more roundabouts.
