Couple questions on counter strafing and stutter stepping.

What's the best way to practice this slowly? I'm going into HS only and Pistol only servers and doing O-K, but the engagements happen more quickly than I'm able to process, so I often don't understand why I land certain shots and miss others. People skating around back and forth are EXTREMELY difficult for me to hit, even when I'm standing still, and even if I'm trying to strafe at the same time they seem to hit me with ease.

As for my own counter strafing, I'm having a hell of a time getting the timing down under pressure. I can pop bots around the corners of walls all day long, but once I'm in game and they start shooting back, I can tell I'm not doing a good enough job of zeroing out my accuracy before firing. Anyone have any specific tips to practice this sort of thing? I'm worried I've got some bad muscle memory built up already, so this is something I'll need to deliberately work on to improve.

Something else I've been curious about. How do you guys move around the map yet stay ready to stop yourself and begin shooting when surprised by an enemy? I understand the concept of hitting the key opposite my movement to stop my momentum and reset my accuracy, but I'm almost ALWAYS moving at a diagonal when travelling around the map (holding W and A for example) because it allows me to maintain my distance from a corner while keeping my crosshair on it. What's the best way to counter strafe out of that to set myself up better when someone gets around that corner before I reach it? Do I need to hit two keys to stop my momentum (S and D)? Do people not spend as much time moving diagonally as I do?

Also, I can't find it now, but someone on Reddit found a May post on some forum promoting undetectable cheats. The forum account coincidentally has both the same age and same location as listed on Subroza's ESEA profile, and the username on the forum is eerily similar to his real name.

Usually I don't like witch-hunting, but god drat. If I was on the fence before, him clearing his inventory right as a major VAC wave occurred may have tipped the balance.

The Friberg map mentioned is pretty good. This is also decent and nice because of the hitboxes being bots not a circle

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=243702660&searchtext=

Make your crosshair dynamic so you can see when you're stopping. Its just another visual queue.

Try to stop holding diagonals if you can. Its much easier to dead stop on one key. Crouching is an option in extreme situations. As for how to stop holding diagonals so much its just practice. Like you can try strafe around dust 2 catching most of the important angles you have to look at in time even if you are doing shallow turns instead of going in a straight line.

Make the bots pistol only with bot_pistols_only 1, and slow down time with host_timescale 0.8. Find a small map and play with 2-3 bots.

It takes practise to hit moving targets that are shooting back at you, even when hosting bots locally. This is a good map http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=368026786

not that i have a stance one way or the other, but because then when you do the same poo poo in a game, you can point at your stream and say, 'look, that's just how i normally play', and people will defend you by saying, 'why would he cheat while practicing on a stream'.

It's just repetition.

It helped me to play with cl_crosshairstyle 3(or 4, whichever one is really really dynamic) with a dot. Use the dot to aim, the crosshair will be really wide while you're moving, and snap to the dot during the moments you're at 0 velocity. Using that crosshair you can learn to find the timing where you're perfectly accurate when youre barely stopped
