mastershakeman posted:white man's privilege: I drove around for weeks without a working tail light and never got hassled My dad drove for 2-3 years with expired tabs. The registration was renewed everytime, he just forgot to put the stickers on. He finally got pulled over after that and got a warning. Older white man in a newer large luxury sedan? You basically have to flip off the cop while doing 100 to get stopped. I guess maybe other cops had run the plates and found the current registration. This cop hadn't and was going to tow it until he ran the plates and it came back registered. He was pretty surprised. I still have my confidential plates, and they're basically white privledge plus. They just come back "[former county] sheriff's department." Apparently my black and hispanic co-workers still got pulled over all the time because the cops don't run their plates first. I've had a few incidents where cops get behind me after I've been lightly speeding, stay for a second and then just pass me. I also can't get red light or toll tickets (though I don't abuse this because I'm not an rear end in a top hat, the LA airport police chief was discovered to have evaded like $100,000 worth of tolls). I can't get them at my new job, so I guess I'm stuck driving these cars forever.

Unless you're a law professor or already have a big book of business, no one is gonna pay you $250 to work 40 hours a week with no stress. California will pay more than half that for that and that's pretty darn good. Plus a pension and manditory vacations.

Can confirm as I work in house at big tech. In about a year when I finish paying off my student loans my take home pay will effectively double.

Random question for the thread - anyone remember that manga styled webcomic about some girls going to law school and generally being miserable about it? What was it called? Is it still around? EDIT: It's been more than 3 years since I had posted in this thread. I regret nothing.

I'm having trouble getting over a client who just decided to gently caress me over to the tune of $5k. We were doing a divorce case, she lost her case to overturn the prenup, loving begged me to stay on, offered to pay me out monthly. I shrugged and said I wouldn't leave her to the wolves or she'd probably lose custody. I have to pay the mediator out of my meager retainer. I'm now minus $50.00. We settle at mediation, she gets $30k in 90 days. I give her a bill for $5,000.00. She says she'll pay it when she gets the money and I trust her. 90 days approach, Husband is late on paying, I help her get it. She asks for a bill, I give it. She goes "Ok, check's in the mail." No check. I call her. She says "Oh poo poo, wrong address. Give me a place I can wire it to." Fine. Nothing wired yet. It's been 60 days. She hasn't responded since Thursday. I know i shouldn't sue for fees. I know it. But gently caress that bitch. I just can't get past it.

Funny story: talking to OC on this lien matter. He blurts out that I only have a 30% chance of winning at trial. He blurts out that his client's legal expenses for a trial would be worth 5% of the total involved. He proceeds to offer 1% of the lien value in settlement. Suck my loving COCK.
