in design school some of my classmates gave a presentation where they had a bunch of adjectives to describe their product, and they had little icons for each

one of the adjectives was "seamless" and for whatever reason they decided to use a picture of a girl in a "seamless" bra. college kids, whatever.

the professor was amaaaaaazingly insulted by this for some reason though and spent several minutes after the presentation ripping them apart, yelling at them for being unprofessional and not taking the task seriously etc.

SECRET security clearance is interesting because it's so wide spread you wonder how can anything be secret, but its because everyone that gets the clearance is basically boyscout material and also the criteria is
1) do you have any debts?
2) have you cheated on your wife and she doesn't know?

If the answer to either of those is uncomfortably high in volume then you don't get the clearance. Otherwise, you are a person of enough honor to protect the secret password and dont have enough leverage out there for the russians to use to leverage you.

also the terminals are in secure places.

this is exactly true. the biggest disqualifiers are debt (vulnerable to being paid for info) and closet homo (vulnerable to extortion)

you can p easily get a clearance if you have a major mental disorder as long as you are on medication and under the treatment of a doctor

and about the typewriters thing the place i worked at had a whole bunch of code running on symbolics that did a bunch of real nerd tier math calcs for the research there but since they don't make those machines anymore and the gov doesn't want to spend money to rewrite/port we were running DEC tru64 alphas with open genera or some poo poo

those machines are still cranking out critical research data for our nation

another funny item was that our server rooms had dial combos on them to get in but you could just pull up the floor tile where the wiring runs and just slide in the 14" crawl space to go under the whole frame and pop into the room. those doors prob cost the gov like 30k$.

another time we got these 250k$ SPARC racks with data arrays in crates parked in the server room to prepare for a large project expansion. they sat in the room for like a year unboxed till it was announced that the thing was cancelled so the BRAND NEW servers got wheeled out right to DRMO

i had to do contractor work for a federal agency and they arent allowed to mail logfiles, no matter what they are, through their email.

however, a contractor on the visitor wifi could.

usb is banned (for obvious reasons, plugging anything usb into a device sent security into the room and the machines were isolated and sent for inspection, but they mostly just scrapped them).

so it meant copying a bunch of logfiles to another laptop via the most efficient of media: burning cds

since we had to deal with a vendor, we had to send a dozen variations of the logs. each time burning a new cd for the ~70kb file. i quickly understood why everyone in the office had a 500 spindle of CDs at their desk.

We had to send something off to be professionally printed a few weeks ago. For some reason we have to put the PDF on a cd and ship it to GSA and then GSA has some weird process for bidding the printing out. I probably asked my boss four or five times if she was sure we had to mail a CD with a 1MB file on it because the whole situation was breaking my brain.
