Also: the backseater hasn't crossed them off the list because they have achieved the aim of killing the pilot. Instead, the pilot accomplishing the very difficult maneuver of mid-air refuelling so increased the backseater's esteem of them that the backseater no longer deems them worthy of death.

Canx'd = cancelled, so "The guy who cancelled port", meaning some high ranking officer that decided the carrier the planes are based off should stay on mission/out to sea instead of pulling into port for a port call. Pretty much the guy that killed their one weekend off in a 4 or 5 week period.

Carries need port calls to replenish supplies and sometimes to give shore liberty to its sailors. Sometimes Port calls get canx (cancelled) for one reason or another. Sailors hate this because it entails being out on the water for days or maybe even weeks longer than anticipated.
