I stopped really paying attention to thrash metal around '09 or so. Back then there were a bunch of new bands trying to do old school thrash and failing. Are there any new thrash bands or albums I should listen to? I heard the newer Overkill albums already. I liked them. Different from their older stuff, but the band is over 30 years old now.

If Vektor counts as thrash in that sense, then the new Vektor album, Terminal Redux. Probably not what you're looking for, though. Do you like Havok? Time Is Up is pretty classic thrash metal in all the good ways. E: drat, one Time Is Up video on youtube has over 1million views. I guess everyone likes Havok already. Dark Roots of the Earth is a loving fantastic album.

Graveyard called it quits. RIP Graveyard Nurel posted:You know what, I grew up to that stuff, so I always knew where that guy stood and had 0 respect for him (except for Dunkelheit, that was a fine track, no way around it) A few pages back, but it's important to clarify this. The French police didn't make any "correlation," because there was absolutely no correlation to be made. They argued that Varg was among the recipients of Breivik's schizophrenic manifiesto, and that some of his blog post made him sound like "the kind of person who might commit a terrorist act. They raided his home, opened fire against the door to open it (although his kids were inside), arrested him without charges and under the secrecy granted by anti terrorist legislation. Varg was then released, the whole terrorism case crashed and burned, as no charges were made. They did manage to convict him under France's idiotic "hate speech" legislation. The state has no right to police people's ideas, let alone treat you like a terrorist because "you sound like the kind of person who maybe one day might commit an act of terrorism." Varg is very dislikeable, so it's easy to see why some people enjoy that this happened to him, but if you sincerely "lol" at the idea of people being persecuted for their ideas, perhaps music, especially metal, isn't for you. It's not really the same at all but when I'm in a Bolt Thrower mood Harm's Way always does a lot for me. I loving love them. Perfect band for lifting weights until your body explodes. They're very cathartic in a fun way I don't get with most of what I listen to.

Nurel posted:this is not the place to argue such things friend, but rooting for varg vikernes after having read his blog is just plain crazy The fact that you can't tell the difference between rooting for someone and believing he has the right to hold his views without fear of persecution says everything there is to know about you. You understand the ACLU doesn't root for the KKK or the American Nazi Party, right? Edit. And his blog is even quoted verbatim in the article I linked. That still doesn't justify what the French did.

You're a big dumb retard if you think all human beings, no matter how despicable their ideals, should not be afforded 100 percent free speech and not fear persecution. This is coming from a non-white, anti-Nazi, anti-fascist, Napalm Death-shirt-wearer-at-work. If it starts with them then it's only a matter of time before it becomes your turn, too.

Hulk Krogan posted:People not taking me seriously when I make mealy-mouthed excuses for nazis is the real fascism, friends. What part of saying he shouldn't be treated like a terrorist for his opinions amount to defending his views? If I agreed with him, I'd be open about it and post in stormfront instead of here. It's totalitarian to think you can lock people up for having the wrong opinions. We know this because that's precisely what totalitarian governments have always done, this isn't a mystery. It's really sad that in a thread about a genre of music that always dealt with controversy, the view seems to be "lock em up."

Hey while you're imagining a whole bunch of things I never said, can I be saying them in Morgan Freeman's voice? That would be sweet. For the record I think even fascists deserve freedom of expression although I'm okay with the government giving them slightly less leeway when it comes to what constitutes a direct incitement to violence given, you know, history. I just think people who habitually get all up in arms to defend shitheads like Phil and Varg on the internet are deeply silly.
