I get my fun here. Enjoy!
The D&D spinoff Pathfinder features a more powerful form of Giants called Gigas. My party and I fought some recently in our campaign. And speaking of things to fight...

Lakitu Alphonsa's Missed Monsters Update 3:

Greetings, fans of this Final Fantasy VI LP! I have here a full scouting report of more monsters that have been missed by the LP but should nevertheless be watched out for by players of Final Fantasy VI. Some of these creatures are quite troublesome- I have nearly exhausted my Spiny supplies and consumed many healing mushrooms during the recent research. I hope this is somehow appreciated.
[Bowser pins a medal on Lakitu's shell]
Thanks boss! That'll do! Now, um, ah yes, the report!

Narshe Mines, Kefka's Attack

Hunting Hound

Steal: Hi-Potion. Rare Steal: Hi-Potion.
Drop: None. Rare Drop: None.
Exp: 115 Gold: 55
Game Commentary: A guard dog trained to attack human intruders. Will flee if left alone.
Lakitu's Commentary: These occasionally accompany green soldiers in Kefka's squadron. Not as dangerous as Fidors. They run off if their handlers are killed.

Western Province Wilderness (that's around Kohlingen, Jidoor, and Zozo to be precise)

Fossil Dragon

Level: 20 HP: 1399 MP: 219
Hit Rate: 100 Attack: 25 Magic: 3 Speed: 35 Evasion: 0
Defense: 100 Magic Defense: 165 Magic Evasion: 0

Lakitu's Commentary: Hey, it's Dry Bones' Big Brother! Seriously, don't wander in the desert around Castle Figaro's Western Province location if you want to avoid these. Their Sandstorm attack hits the whole party and Bone can turn people into Zombies (which again, I'm not saying much about until Leave shows it off in the LP). A pretty tough encounter but using Holy Water or Phoenix Down works as a one-hit kill.

Vulture

Level: 15 HP: 412 MP: 60
Hit Rate: 100 Attack: 13 Magic: 10 Speed: 30 Evasion: 0

Steal: Hi-Potion Rare Steal: Phoenix Down
Drop: Phoenix Down Rare Drop: None

Game Commentary: The Shimsham they generate with their wings halves HP.
Lakitu's Commentary: The frequency of these monsters around the area- they show up in almost every encounter- and how often they use their Shimsham attack really put a dent in my healing supplies. The Shimsham usually sets you up for nasty attacks from other enemies that accompany the Vulture. Take these birds out quick with a Blitz or Tool to the face.

The creature here is a reference to DnD's "Hill Giant", not unlike how DnD Beholders show up. For whatever reason, Square just likes using the term Gigas instead of Giant... probably because it does sound cooler.

It could be that when DnD was first translated into Japanese they used the word "Gigas" for Giant instead of straight up Giant. Gigas is a Greek word for Giant.

Yeah, and it probably also helps that gigas fits better with the Japanese sound set.

This is why people in the know try to low-level game their way until Zozo. Because this is how you fix SabinLeave's magic, which is what his blitzes run off of.

To expand on why this is so important: when you gain a level on a character, their HP and MP go up, but the rest of their stats never change. The only way to raise someone's stats is to have them gain a level while they have an Esper equipped. So if you take advantage of Banon's free infinite healing on that river raft to go in circles for hours and get all the money and all the levels, surprise! You just screwed yourself!

I think that once you get near the end of the game, the only characters worth bringing are the ones that either have stupidly good commands, or a magic stat of Yes.

Also I will throw my vote behind The Figaro Brothers.

Is there any reason to ever care about the weapons that most of your people are using? Like Olivia may need to give a drat for Runic (which affects your party too, and see earlier comment about "magic stat of Yes" to guess who gets screwed by it more as a result), but the Figaro Brothers have commands that are way better than Attack, and I don't think "what weapon are you holding" matters for either Tools or Blitz.

Well, to clarify for anyone that hasn't played before: it only really matters if you're being a min/max overachiever.

I've never bothered paying attention to it and I don't think I made it any more difficult for myself, and I even keep Cyan in my party for most of the game.

Levels are a multiplier to damage though - if you're high enough level, you'll still crap out super high damage numbers even without boosting attack stats through the roof. Speed is arguably the best stat to boost the crap out of though - you can't get more turns any other way, but you can get more damage just by leveling up. That being said, Explosionface is right: you don't need to do any min-maxing to finish the game, though you may need to level up a tad more.

As far as weapons go, Locke can use a good weapon since his capture/mug command uses it to attack. Terra/Celes can use a weapon to save MP. I'm not sure if Cyan's SwdTech actually scales off of weapon damage or not. Gau can't use weapons, the Figaro brothers only care about stat boosts from weapons since they should never be attacking, and Shurikens are cheap enough that Shadow shouldn't be attacking either (he's a great place to put the knives that increase evasion once Locke's done with them).

It's actually pretty cool just how few characters use the basic boring attack command. I feel like the Figaro brothers are the two best designed characters in the game due to the wide variety of attacks that they have and how you have a reason to use their wide array of attacks throughout the game. The one problem with this game, as we can see now that we have Espers, is that if your special command is worse than casting magic, then there's no reason for you to ever do anything but just spam spells.

Yeah, one thing that disappointed me about FF6 was how generic the characters felt after a while, combat-wise. Magic became the answer to almost any problem. I think limiting who could use what material would have helped character gimmicks stay relevant. (I'm sure there's a patch out there that does that.)

Whoever's got the biggest whiskers does the talking.
One thing I really love about Zozo is how easy it is to get money there. Since you just get the magicite, you'd be interested in getting a few spells so it's a great place to get spell points and money.

Most enemies give relics when you steal from them (just kill the harvesters before they run, you get your money back). And the Gigas aren't THAT hard to steal from. The amulets are worth a bout 2k a piece and the goggles are worth about 500 a piece. If you're lucky, you'll get some dragoon boots too which are worth a whopping 4.5 k.

Speaking of Dragoon boots, they're great for guys who can use spears since the jump command does double damage with spears (cough Remain cough), and you should try to get some for when tools start to be out-shined by magic.

Finally somebody mentioned that since you don't get exp fighting on the veldt is waste of time. This is where I finally get to mention my reason for disagreeing. You still get magic points while on the Veldt, so if you don't want to massively level up while getting magic you can grind magic points out there (and still get money/items or even get new rages for Mowgli).

To be fair, the game pretty much spells it out with the focus on magic as a dread destructive force that reshaped the face of the world the last time it was used in warfare. If magic could set civilization back by a millennium the last time it was used, you'd kind of expect it to actually be the answer to most problems.

There's another one I enjoyed, despite a big glaring flaw. It was called something about the crystals, and while it had shoddy sprite editing, it did a great job at making characters individuals. The glaring flaw was that not everyone could equip Espers. It wouldn't be a huge thing if they had just simply removed stat bonuses from them. So half the cast can have obscene stats while the other half lags far behind.

I also despised liked the gimmick where stealing from an animal didn't just give you nothing. It unleashed a counter that would murder basically the entire party because you were stupid enough to steal from something without pockets or some other such nonsense. Easily the dumbest change in the romhack - if you don't want animals to be valid steal targets, just remove stolen items from their list. There's absolutely no reason to unleash a party-wiping counter attack over it.

Taking the term "Koopaling" to a whole new level since 2016.
Update Twenty Five: Not Quite Our Forte

Howdy, folks, and welcome back! Last time, on Final Fantasy VI, we found that Terra is safe and sound, if not a little scared and worn out from her transformation. We also met Ramuh, who explained to us he was an Esper, and that there are more Espers trapped within the Empire, where their magic is being drained from them. Ramuh, along with some compatriots, gifted us with our first pieces of Magicite, allowing our characters to begin learning magic. Today, we're going to start figuring out how the hell we're going to get to the Empire, so let's roll.

It's cool that you came all the way out here, only to immediately head back.

: Thou art full of poo poo...

Boat?

Dammit. Maybe we could try to swim? Or go back to Doma Castle, which is secretly a submarine castle?

Where are you going with this, Nathan?

Oh, I gotcha. Rich people often know stuff they shouldn't, so if we go and threaten to cut one's balls off, we'll be in like Flynn!

:shobon:

Sorry, guess I went too far there. :sweatdrop:

Well, it's either him or Jack, and some choices just have to be made.

: ...I just wanted to have a look around.

Alright, let's get the hell outta here. I didn't think about it when I was throwing the brothers back into the party, but Leave is in the top slot, so the guy in green shoes, white sweatpants, and a lilac wifebeater is taking us to the town of rich folk.

Nah, I covered the important parts. Though, come to think of it, I don't think I mentioned summoning, which is a thing you can do, but probably one you won't do very often.

Basically, when someone has an Esper equipped, if you go into their magic menu, you can access a menu at the top of their magic that has their Esper in it, which you can summon once a battle. Some are utility, while others deal straight damage, and others heal.

So, let's see one in action.

Now, Nathan has a magic menu, but no magic. He hasn't learned any yet, see?

However, for 25 MP, he can summon Ramuh! :science:

Everyone has a casting animation now, too, since you've gotta look like something when casting spells.

Ramuh's summon attack is called Judgment Bolt, which sounds way more badass than it is.

Fun lookin' animation, though.

Due to Nathan's piss poor Magic score, it barely does poo poo.

Ramuh deals lightning damage, and is our only damage dealing summon at the moment. Kirin will grant everyone Regen, allowing them to slowly regenerate HP, while Siren will attempt to Silence all enemies, and Cait Sith will attempt to Confuse all enemies. I'd have more .gifs to show you, but I barely remembered to show off even one of them, so when we've gotten a few more, I'll throw them together and let you guys see what it's all about for the different summons.

I warn you, it won't be that exciting.

This time, we're going to the house of the richest dude in town, since why would there be a mansion we can enter if there's no point?

Uh...

I don't think Leave is a woman.

Oh, her! Nathan was my next guess. Olivia isn't some twit or floozy or anything.

...Wait a second, this could be important!

What?

And there he goes...

Hey, dickface, does she give the finger like Maria!?

A famous opera singer! Oh, me, oh my, there's going to be some hijinks and shenanigans!

...A letter! Oh, the intrigue!

...Uh-huh...

Which says...?

What kind of pretentious dickbag calls himself The Wandering Gambler?

...Is he on an airship?

Son of a bitch, he has an airship. I need more of that in my life.

But, he's also going to be a new party member! He's going to need a new name, so BOLD a vote for what we're going to call him. Keep in mind, looking at that portrait, despite him looking like he's two drinks and a fall from being the Cryptkeeper, he's only 27 years old.

...Wait, wait, wait, he has the world's only airship, and the Empire is totally okay with that?

They seriously haven't tried to shoot down this wandering jerk?

Quickly, to the opera house!

Yes, the one who you thought was a woman!

Jesus, I can feel the theater student vibes from here.

Well, we've certainly got enough gear to stop him with.

:what:

B-but, Olivia, his job!

There you go. Way not to be a--

...I don't like you.

I think we're trying to prevent that, right? At the very least, we're trying to let an innocent woman stay un-kidnapped.

What, like he's not going to bust into this place without his airship?

So, Nathan, your plan is to trick him, kill him, then steal his ride?

You missed a keyword there, chief.

And our decoy can take care of herself.

Gimme a minute.

Spittin' image, could fool someone in a heartbeat, etc etc.

Though, we probably should have Olivia's permission first...

Liv, you on board?

Yes, no, yes? I think we're doing it either way.

This line amuses me, and I love it, and I'll use a reference to it as often as I can.

With that said, she barrels Nathan out of the way.

Then smashes into the door herself, before composing herself and running inside.

This next part is slightly on wheels, so we're going to take a break here. That, and we need a new name before Setzer arrives, so be sure to BOLD your vote, and I'll see you next time!

I stabbed you dude!
It's always cool to see people like Alucard in smaller roles before their big breakout game. I believe he was going by Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes at this point

I wish this was my Smash main.
Uhhhh....... Alright y'know what, I don't have ANYTHING good for Setzer, so let's go completely asinine and name him Alka.

(E: Changed later)
