If you were a Chinese woman living in America, but planning on going back to China in a couple years, what would you study at an American community college (university is also a possibility, but probably not for 4 years) with the aim of being able to parlay that into a career in China?

My wife needs something productive to do with her time here.

A teaching master's is possible in 1.5 years. That coupled with 1-2 years teaching experience could get a job as a well paid teacher at an international school.

it would be better to be in USA in a time of war than it would be to be in China when it is collapsing on itself

Especially if you are a foreigner

ESPECIALLY if you are a foreigner married to a local

Unfortunately, she hasn't gotten 'round to finishing her degree in China. IT could work, at least.

Also, American teaching experience or no, a Chinese person isn't gonna get the big bucks at an international school.

The real international schools have the same pay for everyone. And if you want extra guarantee then foreign citizenship helps.

It's not banker or lawyer pay and capped rather early but it's good benefits and is a "real job" salary.

It's at least 350000 rmb a month not including a supplementary housing allowance

teachers in Tianjin make about 20,000rmb/month and have housing included at the international schools, not 350,000 rmb/month, FYI

at least thats what it was 2 years ago, maybe with the RMB dropping it is more? idk. it was 20,000/month (after taxes) and housing. not a bad deal, esp for tianjin

I was thinking more in line of the bigger cities and top tiered places known by the rest of the international teaching circuit

35,000/month along with housing, if that's after taxes, is a pretty ridiculous pay for a regular teacher. like a history teacher making 35,000/month along with a housing stipend after taxes, that's like a 100,000 USD/year job. that's more than some university professors with PhDs make.

i'm not saying it doesn't happen, but to tell people "yeah come be a teacher at an international school in china for 35,000rmb/month" just isn't very realistic. at all.

35 is insane for a starting salary, it's definitely possible for people to make it, I'd even guess some here do, but a starting salary for a random teacher is absurd

I for one, was over the moon when I was offered 10k RMB and an apartment to teach English. I have never seen a 35K rmb (or similar other currency) job anywhere, in Canada or elsewhere. Hell I know actual teachers here and they are not doing that well.

I'd be happy for any job, frankly.

I need a security perimeter with Venetian blinds.
With the correct background, experience, location, and longievity, you could potentially get 35k/mo as an international school teacher. Those are not things to assume, though.

Hell, top I've heard is 50k/mo for Shanghai International, but that isn't 'a job', that's unique circumstance.
International school teaching starts at 15 at the very low end, hits 20 pretty quickly, 25 without too much trouble, then it's a slog to 30. Play your cards right and 35 is possible but not guaranteed.
