They won't show up until much later in the game, once you have somebody who will run the meadow for you.

Just one more thing!
I noticed after playing Lucky Panel for awhile that the shuffle and +1 chance cards almost never get shuffled into the top row, and that they seem to show up in the bottom two rows most often. I tried opening the bottom cards first, and if I reveal the shuffle, then I would reveal from the top for my remaining reveals. Because of this I got shuffled less often and stumbled into the +1 during the game more frequently, and this greatly increased my winrate. This was the one in Alltrades present, I'm not sure if they all work like that or if it was just my RNG seed but I definitely played long enough that there seems to be something to that.

i've seen that mentioned elsewhere as well, so it isn't just you. furthermore, when the shuffle isn't in the bottom row it seems to almost never show up in the outside edge. that's just anecdotal evidence, of course.

So if I wait awhile to get this game what am I going to permanently miss, if anything? The tablets that are given out via the online mode occasionally?

Ojetor posted:

To put it in perspective, this is a series that doesn't have Game Overs. The difficulty is tuned so that literal children can beat these games, much like Pokemon's is.

DQ8 is the only example that comes to mind where you could potentially screw yourself up if you spread out your skill points for no reason instead of focusing on a couple of skills, but even then you could probably still complete the game by over-leveling the final boss.

Especially since at level 65 they get Dragon Soul which they can just use to nuke something for the few turns their MP hours out. Though if it's affected by tension then a couple tension 100 casts are probably going to kill anything.

cloofish posted:

I think that DQ games just have a hard part or two each game, like Dhoulmagus in 8 and the whole Alltrades Abbey dealio in 7.

Neither of those compare to the turbo loving that Mudo gives you immediately before unlocking Dharma, though I've heard he was toned down in the remakes at least. In the original SFC he's pretty rough and the first time I went up against him and his stabby clown rear end in a top hat minions I think he immediately killed one person and wiped me out in 4 turns while I tried to fight defensively. That fight could RNG you in ways I don't recall with Dhoulmagus. DQ7's part you mentioned is more annoying than anything imo.

GobiasIndustries posted:

DQVII: Is it possible to win the mandatory fight at Alltrades Abbey without being severely overleveled?

Even if it is it'll probably play out the same way regardless, just like the 'unwinnable' fight in DQ6 does.

All of my deaths so far have been to Thwack. In SMT I go through the five stages of grief when something like that happens but in DQ I just laugh at my own hubris for not having the right items in my character inventories.

edit: ^ I tried looking it up but couldn't find clear info on what the DLC tablet situation is. Nintendo's site acts like they'll expire with the first one going away on the 30th, but some people seem to think that after they're all out they'll either all go up permanently or cycle again?

Death costs you nothing but money. I grind too much so I've got a good amount of money saved in the bank, plus a stack of prayer rings I won from the casino I can sell for cash any time. Laughing at death is an appropriate response in DQ. So far my only death was underestimating a tablet boss.

So I wasn't getting any hearts at all from anything but slimes in the tablets. Literally hundreds of battles, no hearts. I saved, then fully closed the game and reopened it and now Ive gotten 4 birdy hearts in 15 battles. Like, maybe its confirmation bias, but I haven't played anything else on my 3ds since I got to alltrades at least, and saving and quitting is literally the only thing I did to change things, and now monsters drop hearts again. I would love to know if someone else having that problem can fix it that way too.

I am very excited that its fixed for me but so, so put off that I wasted so much time.

The 24 hour wait between sharing tablets feels a tad restrictive when it's your only way of being able to trade them at all. I assume leveling up your monsters that found the tablets make the dungeons harder, but it's a slow road when you only gain 1-3 levels with a single monster per day. :(

I believe that you are correct, but the first items that cast spells were in DQ2. There was a buyable wand early on that cast Fireball (small single-target nuke) and was the best thing for the princess and probably the prince as well, since his overall weapon selection is awful. Later, there is the Staff of Thunder which is the best melee weapon for the princess and casts some nuke, whose name I have forgotten, that hits a whole enemy group for moderate damage. In the NES game, you could infinitely farm this item and sell the extras for major money - DW2 was so punishing you almost had to. Later, there was also the shield that you could use from inventory to heal yourself only. It was worth having one in every character's backpack, even if he/she couldn't equip it. The Sage's Stone in DWIII was the first group-heal item, though, and it was great. You couldn't really abuse it in a critical fight, but it was a huge resource saver in dungeons and the like.

You do get 5 party members to choose from at the end of the game, though.
