They are doing their jobs. Their job is to create content that makes money for the company that employs them. If you don't like that, then find a way to get people to actually pay for investigative journalism.

So are we just gonna ignore the paragraph where he says people complaining about false balance are bad and should feel bad?

Because that's exactly what the paragraph I quoted says.

Read it again.

quote:

1) The people complaining about "false balance" usually seem confident in having discovered the truth of things for themselves, despite the media's supposed incompetence. They're quite sure of whom to vote for and why. Their complaints are really about the impact that "false balance" coverage might have on other, lesser humans, with weaker minds than theirs. Which is not just snobbish, but laughably snobbish. So, shut up.

Does this describe you? If so, then I agree with Taibbi: shut up. If not, then he's not talking about you and you don't need to have your feelings hurt. Given that this paragraph is literally embedded into an article complaining about the state of the media, I suspect that Taibbi is not making a blanket statement about every single person who has ever complained about the current state of journalism.

That article is a treatise on missing the point, he spends the time waffling between the article form every stupid "why do people care about Whitney Houston dying and not are troops!?" facebook meme ever and falsely equating complaints of false balance with saying the media should be throwing the election.

He is mostly correct that the current state of the media is due to the stupidity of the audience but that is a dumb article.

Yeah. It's why we'll likely see manager #4 soon. VP debate is going to likely be a wash (and no one cares except for diehard politics nerds), though the Town Hall is going to be what ultimately makes or breaks Trump. He has a good showing, and he might be able to make things competitive again. He has a bad showing, and all that's left is to wonder "how bad will the blowout be and/or how will we be able to deal with such a harvest of corncobs?"

Unless Trump floods the town hall with his own supporters I can't imagine anything except for a wash at best. He's going to peacock in front of an audience like he always does and, surprise, most of America hates the garbage you're spewing!

He'll flail around inanely and short Hillary throwing up and collapsing on stage or something he may very well end up turning the audience hostile against him which would be incredible.

Right now, as it stands, Hillary is up 293-215-30. This determination is done via what are the "tossup" states (NV, AZ, CO, WI, MI, PA, VA, NC, FL, and NH) and RCP average. If the RCP average is < 1, the state remains a tossup (NV, CO, and NC), 1 <= average <= 2 then lean, 2 < average <= 3 then likely, and 3 < average is safe.

Video Shows Carolina Cop Violently Arrest Black Man For Sitting On His Porch

quote:

A police officer in Greensboro, North Carolina, was stripped of law enforcement credentials this week by the city council, which released body camera footage showing him violently arresting a man sitting on his porch.

City council voted unanimously Monday to permanently sanction Officer Travis Cole for using excessive force during the June arrest. The body camera footage shows Cole roughly throwing Dejuan Yourse to the floor of the porch and punching him as Yourse waited for his mom to come home and let him into the house, according to local news WREG.

The council pushed for criminal charges against Cole, but the district attorney refused, saying he wouldn’t “rehash the same evidence,” the Greensboro News & Record reported.

Cole and another officer approached Yourse’s house after they were dispatched to investigate a possible break-in on June 17.

As seen in body camera footage from both officers, combined below, Yourse explains that he’s waiting for his mom, who has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years, and visits her house every day.

Yourse is seen on the video attempting to phone his mom so she can speak to the officers. He gives the officers his ID, which lists the address as his residence, and he suggests the officers ask a neighbor to verify that he lives there.

The exchange escalates when Cole places his hands on Yourse’s chest to stop him from walking away. After Yourse sits back down, Cole snatches Yourse’s phone from his hand while Yourse is talking to someone, asking the person to come to his house because “the police is over here and they harassing me.”

Cole then throws Yourse to the floor and struggles to handcuff him. Amid the scuffle, Yourse repeatedly asks Cole why he’s punching him. When Cole yells, “I’m going to hit you again,” Yourse yells back, “Why?”

The cops charged Yourse with resisting arrest and assault on government officials. The charges were dropped when Cole resigned from his position in August. The second officer involved in Yourse’s arrest, C.N. Jackson, quit her job on Wednesday. Both ex-officers are white.

Sacramento police try to run over mentally ill homeless man, when that fails they get out and shoot him 14 times.

quote:

Two Sacramento police officers attempted to run over a mentally ill homeless man with their car less than 35 seconds before they shot and killed him, according to recordings released by police this month.

One of the officers says “f--- this guy” in the frantic final minute before they shot Joseph Mann on Del Paso Boulevard. Moments later, the driver says, “I’m going to hit him.”

“OK. Go for it. Go for it,” his partner responds.

During that sequence, the officers gunned their vehicle toward Mann, backed up, turned and then drove toward him again, based on dashcam video released by police. They stopped the car, ran toward Mann on foot and shot him 14 times.

There's no such thing as ethical journalism in a capitalist system. This is the inescapable conclusion I've come to. For-profit journalism has no compelling motive to encourage ethical reporting that responds to reality on the ground. Journalists actually reporting on things and NOT using false equivalency are the exception, and are not actually doing their job.

They're like police officers in a major city, under orders to racially profile and meet certain arrest quotas, who buck authority and do the right thing. They've made the ethical choice, but they're not doing their job. I don't mean to say they should do their job as it stands, but merely that the barrels are all rotten.
