Yep. And then there was the one where he promised Hillary revelations and it was just a list of personal information on people from Saudi Arabi who could be in trouble for it.

The NYT has been defending itself in court for more than 100 years and has the law on its side. Someone probably threatens to sue them weekly. Them ignoring that threat from Trump is not some stunning act of bravery; they would completely stomp on Trump's lawyers and win their legal fees from him.

I'm not so sure about that. If the media and Hillary's campaign can hit him hard enough, reminding people that you and your family pay taxes every single year, but Trump hasn't for two decades has potential.

Plus Christie and Giuliani are morons, so I don't think they can paper over this themselves. Katy Tur and NBC were not kind to Trump this morning.

Not just pay taxes, but also pay for his lavish lifestyle via subsidies and defrauding charities. Everything starts making sense that Trump's fortune is largely by having access to other people's money.

Alkydere posted:

It was his reward for crashing a casino. He lost a billion dollars by ruining a loving casino.

For reference, if you own a casino it might as well be a literal money fountain for how hard it is to gently caress up. Trump ran one into the ground and as a reward he gets to not pay taxes for 20 years.

Also, since you're not the first person to bring it up...it's probably not even that great of a deal anyways due to inflation. That one billion in tax credit doesn't go as far as one billion in cash you could have invested 20 years ago. :v:

The Taj Mahal was such a big deal that '80s and '90s kids might remember that Batman: The Animated Series even made an episode based off it, where an unscrupulous billionaire's casino goes overbudget in it's construction and has personally bankrupted him, so he rebrands it with the Joker's image so he can destroy it and get a much larger insurance payout.

Yeah, that's one of those things that breaks that whole paradigm.

There's an interesting rumor floating around that the leak may have come from Marla Maples, since she had threatened to expose Trump if he ever ran for President. He sicced his lawyers to silence her but this might have been her way at getting back at him without exposing herself. Considering that we saw him try to bring their daughter Tiffany into supporting him in recent days, largely against her will (that NYT puff piece that the only thing had her consent was her being photographed, everything else was a surrogate), I could see her or even Tiffany sending the tax returns to derail him as revenge.

Just prior to the first debate would have been excellent timing for any kind of anti-Clinton piece, if only to distract from Trump's terrible night, which was pretty much inevitable. Kind of like how the DNC emails were released just before the Democratic convention.

I wonder if Trump supporters or his campaign get really desperate they'll bring Jeffery Epstein's name up? It'd be a suicide bombing since it has far more potential to hurt Trump than Bill or Hillary.

This goes double if it's not an insta-kill. There's so much in the news right now that anything other than "video proof of Hillary literally murdering children" isn't going to fully capture the cycle. But on Wednesday or Thursday, it's well-timed to dominate things until the second debate, where Hillary is forced to address it.

Nah, his craziness was apparent at least as far back as his book The Dilbert Future (1998), in which he claimed that you can develop mental powers to influence things like picking winning stocks.
