Reddit might suck but it's way easier to clean poo poo up there than on 4chan. Also the irony of a SA outliving an SA-spawned site that got more popular is amazing.

also 4chan isn't shutting down, there's a good few rich tech guys who got their start there. they might implement the image limit thing, but there's no way it just vanishes off the internet.

The most curious part of the 4chan story is discovering that the Minecraft founder is a shitheel, imo. I got my dad to vote for Hillary. I feel accomplished. Also he told me he voted for Obama in 2008, which I didn't know. I this find myself in the bizarre position of knowing my dad has worse political opinions than my mom but a better voting record.

SA's overhead is also a fraction of 4chan's - I don't have exact numbers, but 4chan does way more stuff than we do. Even most images posted on SA are hosted offsite from places like Imgur or Tumblr. I also have doubts about the sustainability of a super ad-focused model like 4chan's. It's increasingly tough to make money on ads. SA's userbase is much smaller, but also a lot more inclined to spend money on the site.

SA's userbase is much smaller, but also a lot more inclined to spend money on the site. I think the other problem is that ad companies (e.g. Google) probably don't want to be associated with known white supremacist / gross porn sites. Pretty sure SA has the word filters and gross picture rules specifically to prevent this. So yeah, they're facing an uphill battle. The "deplorables" are going to find themselves in a world of hurt once they go looking for a place for their "free speech" and they figure out the first amendment doesn't guarantee you a forum or platform for your speech. SA can go on with things like paid memberships, but I doubt your average white supremacist calling for the death of politicians would be too geeked on signing up for a site and giving them personal information like a credit card and billing address.
