let's not forget the loan his father gave him by buying poker chips, either

hahaha I looked it up and it's so dumb:

quote:

ATLANTIC CITY — One of Donald Trump's casinos has admitted that it broke the law and violated terms of its license when the developer's father lent it $3.5 million by purchasing gaming chips when he had no plans to gamble, the state Division of Gaming Enforcement said yesterday.

Through his attorney, Fred Trump bought 700 gray chips, each worth $5,000, in December so that Trump Castle Casino Resort would have enough cash to make an $18.4 million interest payment on its mortgage, the division said.

Trump Castle gets to keep the money, but must pay a $30,000 fine under terms of the settlement, Division Director Jack Sweeney said. Sweeney said Fred Trump also agreed to apply for a license as a financial source, which would make another such loan possible in June, when the next interest payment is due.

That sounds like it might jeopardize your gambling license instead of the much less serious charge of being an unlicensed lender.

Mind you apparently NJ gambling licenses can be found in cereal boxes, so easy was it for Donald to run his casino empire despite having an entire warehouse of closets stuffed with skeletons.

SA's overhead is also a fraction of 4chan's - I don't have exact numbers, but 4chan does way more stuff than we do. Even most images posted on SA are hosted offsite from places like Imgur or Tumblr.

I also have doubts about the sustainability of a super ad-focused model like 4chan's. It's increasingly tough to make money on ads. SA's userbase is much smaller, but also a lot more inclined to spend money on the site.

Before the mp4/webm/whatever thing, they used to host a shitload of 3MB gifs and whatnot. It's all storage costs and then the number of ad networks that will actually run on a site like 4chan are quite slim; so huge overhead, little revenue. I don't think that moot was ever right side up on the site, just various levels of upside down.

Also, the point about "a lot more inclined to spend money on the site" is incredibly interesting and fascinating. If someone pisses you off (or pisses a lot of people off), you can spend $10 to gently caress with them and change their avatar. On 4chan or reddit? Well, you first scour their entire online presence, reset the password on the easiest vector of attack, plaster nudes all over social media, run off with their credit cards if you can, and then call their parents at 3am in the morning.
