It's almost as if there are various factors to explain why games ship in the state they do, such as staff size, budget, time frame and tools available to the developers. But, here's a few examples of games that did 60fps at launch, so surely these specific dev's are just lazy fucks and hate PC players on a personal level.

If the majority of games were released with 30 fps locks, complaining wouldn't do anything. It's because the vast majority release with 60 as a minimum that when one doesn't, a shitstorm arises and the dev capitulates, as they have in this case.

Kontradaz posted:I have never before seen people fight so hard for regression in technology and development. It is true, Idiocracy has arrived. That's a very interesting take on my comment. Not really based on reality, unfortunately, but interesting nonetheless. Xeremides posted:Duke Nukem 3D supported 60 fps, Diablo is an ARPG so, much like strategy games, don't necessarily need 60 fps, and Tomb Raider didn't. You'll notice that in 1996, Tomb Raider was actually pushing hardware, so it's understandable that they didn't aim for what only a supercomputer could achieve at the time. Much like why Bloodborne and Dark Souls 4 are 30 fps titles on the PS4. That isn't the case today for PC. Skip forward a few years, and you start seeing support skyrocket. Because, you know, tech got better. So, you're saying that the default standard for gaming decades ago was not, in fact 60fps? (Please note that I'm not saying, as Kontradz above seems to have assumed, that 30fps is fine and dandy and we should all devolve back it immediately .) Actually, my systems back at that time were either Amiga or hand-me-down 586 v/Voodoo 1, so I wasn't paying attention to ULTIMATE MAX FPS discussions, but then again, I wasn't seeing a lot of column space or electrons being devoted to the issue either. <shrug> Guess I'll be looking around at the reviews/actual non-sponsored play videos/goon reports/maybe getting some hands-on at an upcoming LAN party, because I could use some 1960s iron to horse around N'awlins streets and assholes to murder.

Zamboni Apocalypse posted:That's a very interesting take on my comment. Not really based on reality, unfortunately, but interesting nonetheless. You listed 3 games from 3 different genres, and the one where fps matters the most, the first person shooter, supported 60 fps. Hey, Doom 2016, Mafia 3 and Furi when it first released! One supports 165 hz, and the other two only support(ed) 30 fps! The standard on PC gaming clearly isn't 60 fps. When the tech can support 60 fps, the devs generally support 60 fps, even on consoles: http://www.giantbomb.com/60-fps-on-consoles/3015-3223/games/ Or just a straight up list: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?26920-Games-with-3D-graphics-running-at-60-fps-5th-Generation-Consoles Which is why it doesn't make sense for Mafia 3 to be locked to 30. It's impossible. 2K tried their best
