For example, I was treated well (in particular) at Green Bay by the fans when I traveled back there for a game. They aren't mean to you or want to stab you they just feel sorry for you because you are not a Packer fan. That's the way it should be.

I think you can get to Levis s via a combination of Caltrain and bus, but it is hilarious to me that it's much easier for people living in SF to go to a Raiders game than a 9ers one. It's even more hilarious that it will be about the same number of transfers to fly to Vegas and see a Raiders game than it will be to get to Levis.

The biggest cluster gently caress in an organization that has been nothing but a cluster gently caress since The Pick at the Stick was Levis' early parking woes. They were dumbfounded that people didn't want to take Caltrain to mountain view and catch VTA so parking was a disaster because there were literally thousands more people driving than they anticipated. They thought it would be like AT&T.

You know, where you catch a train anywhere near you and it drops you off like 2 minutes from at&t park.

Step 1. Take youth soccer parks away to convert them to parking
Step 2. Wait 15 years for the youth who no longer had an after school activity to become gang members who murdered people in the Stich parking lot
Step 3. Move to a nice new stadium in a different city because Santa Clara is too dangerous

It currently needs a 2/3rds majority so there's no way in hell.

If it gets over 50% it'll probably go into the court system and who knows what the gently caress at that point.

edit: and current polls have it at somewhere between 30 and 35% in favor, so lol

I'm not positive on the financial logistics, but the only teams that don't treat their cheerleaders like human chattel are the ones that don't have any, so I'm going to put it on the league. Cheerleaders in general are shat on, it's not considered a sport in college so title nine protections and NCAA stuff don't apply to them, and it's one of the most dangerous activities college students can be involved in

I assumed that LVS would play this to their usual beat (anti union, anti convention center) and go down on that count, but instead they attached the convention center and got the assist of a building union to give some Dems the cover of "jobs". So basically Adelson abandoned his decades long quest against the convention center to make it happen.

Which kind of leaves me wondering what the point of all that was. Oh well, more people to vote out of office!

And that's just our Northern Nevadan problems. I have no idea what SoNev looks like.

But on the other hand... the chance for an NFL team even if 8 hours away finally in my state? Especially the Raiders who are my second favorite team? I've been googling "when will nevada get a pro football team" for probably 15-18 years.
As a southerner, I don't understand why a northerner would feel more attachment to a football team on the far other side of Nevada than you would if it was in Sacramento or something, or even just a nicer building in Oakland. Outside of political discussion, nobody in the south thinks of the north end that frequently. I tend to think of Reno/Sparks having a much closer tie to Sacramento in terms of economics and even culture (major concert tour stops etc) than Vegas.

Our shared problem is now that the state has basically a $400MM budget shortfall and the few tax faucets we can turn on (the ones that shift the cost onto visitors and don't directly cost anybody who lives here) have been tapped instead to bring us men in helmets shouting hut.

It's now up to the NFL's hatred of casinos to save us from ourselves.

Leperflesh posted:

Dunno about nevada but in california half the time when the voters approve some borrowing or tax that is supposed to benefit X

I seem to remember that California has government actively in session all year round. Sometimes they have to bar the doors to keep lawmakers from going home without a budget deal on the table, but they're scheduled to be back next week. If voters approve something, it won't take long for the Capitol to gently caress it up. Hence "and no money for Sacramento" is actually written into some local measures.

Nevada works with the government showing up to work for two weeks in the middle of the year, with special sessions only to address emergency budget shortfalls or to benefit a sports team with tax money. The desire to get poo poo done before the chambers become a ghost town for another year leads to some bills getting "rammed and jammed" just to make sure people don't call it quits for the year with some important issue left unaddressed.

And the Lord said, "Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
That ship has sailed, sports betting is legal in the UK, so the NFL can't deny a team to Vegas because of it without sounding like giant hypocrites.

Well for one thing the Raiders have said that they want to throw a bone to the North to have training camp here. That's cool, but it's mostly about some state pride for me. It was always obvious that if Nevada ever got any pro sports team it would go to Vegas, but that's not the point. Like I'm rooting for Killebrew from UNLV especially since he's a Lion, simply because he's from Nevada. Same with Jace Billingsly (Winnemucca born), Kaep (UNR player), Brandon Marshall (UNR player), Kyle Van Noy (Reno born), etc. Luckily a bunch of those players are on the Lions so it's absolutely win-win for me.

It's also a cheap (~$100/person) hour plane flight away, where as going to SF or Oakland meant dealing with a bunch of California drivers and going over Donner Pass, potentially in the snow which can take over 8 hours sometimes one way. I'm overly tired of that drive since we do it 5-6 times per year, and we always seem to go when it's snowing.

Also my wife and I have friends in Vegas so we have a place to stay if we want to hit up some games which we likely will. I plan on getting in on the NHL action too.

tl;dr sports team in Nevada I'm happy about that. It could be in Elko and I'd still enjoy it. People from California or states who have always had teams probably can't relate.
