Using the Johnny Cash version of Hurt was both entirely too on the nose, and an excellent choice because it's an excellent song.

I'm a bit confused on how this fits into the new continuity they established for the modern day X-Men stuff post-DOFP where it seemed like the awful future was avoided and mutants were doing well.

Granted I'm probably overthinking this because most of the X-films don't match up time wise even before the DOFP reset

On the one hand, yes, but on the other, it couldn't be much more Mad Max: Mutant Edition if it tried.

I believe in a universe that doesn't care, and people that do.

Releasing a trailer this morning was not the best move by Fox, the Nintendo Switch is taking up all the social media real estate for the next 24 hours.

I like it. The thought of getting a (relatively) low-budget depressing road trip movie with a near-death Xavier and old washed-up Logan safeguarding a symbol of hope is exciting. That's probably not at all close to what we'll actually get, but the trailer hits all the right buttons.

In 2024, mutants are living on the fringes of society, and their birth rates have plummeted.

Logan (Hugh Jackman) is living on New Mexico, haunted by the demons of his past. His healing factor is failing, and he has turned to alcohol to cope with his chronic pain.

Logan is working as a limousine driver to afford medicine for his mentor, Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who has lost control of his powers, resulting in dementia.

One day, Logan crosses paths with Laura (Sienna Novikov), a young girl with Adamantium claws, who is fleeing from Transigen, a secret government program led by Dr. Zander Rice (Richard E. Grant).

Logan finds out that Transigen is turning mutant children into killing machines for the United States government and decides to protect Laura. Rice then deploys the Reavers, a group of cybernetically-enhanced mercenaries led by Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) to recapture Laura and kill Logan.

The Reavers harbor a vendetta against Logan as they were formerly affiliated with the Weapon X Program and were all mutilated by Logan in the past.

Logan and Xavier seek Caliban (Stephen Merchant), a mutant broker capable of sensing other mutants and their powers, to help them protect Laura, and he informs them of a safe haven for mutants. Logan and Xavier must then escort Laura there while being pursued by the Reavers.

The trailer is amazing, the synopsis sounds good and we all know Jackman never half-asses his performance as Wolverine. Is it possible they finally pulled this off? And it only took 17 years to get it right.

And no sign of a horribly mutated Thing playing stand in for the Hulk so at least that rumor is out the door.

I hope this is the future of X-Men films. Same characters but let's bounce around the timeline and tell better stories without worrying about connecting to the other films.

My vote is send the kids from Apocalypse into space, maybe add a young Kitty and Piotr, space pirate adventures with the Starjammers and the Shi'iar, maybe the Brood?

It's too bad there's no new timeline Emma Frost established, her part of OML would have fit right in.

Then again people would just assume they're ripping off Game of Thrones.

The Wolverine was good until the last 15 minutes when it curled too far up its own rear end. Wolverine killed an adequate number of Yakuza, but not nearly enough Ninjas.
