What I'm saying is if you make taking a picture of your completed ballot legal, it becomes very hard to police the illegal activity, and then the Republicans MIGHT actually have a case when they cry voter fraud.

It's kind of scary people don't realize why making proof of ballot illegal is pretty essential to a functioning democracy. It's sad that the fact it's so easy to unwittingly commit a felony for pure motives is going to be the downfall of these laws. Are you the same people who were wondering what the big deal was when Unions were trying to pass laws to strike down secret ballots?

No, but in Texas' case (as well as other southern States) I could see there being a problem with people taking photographs of the uppity minorities in line to visit them later.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Friedrich Nietzsche A Thousand Plateaus, Giles Deleuze and Félix Guattari The Forest People, Colin Turnbull This last one is a classic ethnography of the Mbuti hunter-gatherers of Central Africa and the first I ever read. I think this book made such a great impression on me is that it, and potentially any other ethnography, offered a view of a society with norms and values and material circumstances so utterly different from my own, and yet despite their differences the people within it were still so relatably human. I think a lot of people struggle to empathize with others especially those from different cultures, and reading a work like this or traveling can really break apart some things you always just assumed were inherent about the world.

It would be trivial to alter a photo of a completed ballot to "prove" whatever, so anyone who would accept a selfie as evidence of a ballot being cast a certain way is a moron in addition to a criminal.

My disagreement with you with this is not that you're wrong (yes I think it's silly) but as I've mentioned previously the law in my state is an outright ban of photography within 100 feet of a polling location. Which is different than just snapping a picture of your ballot.

Crain posted:That's my mentality now. It has to happen sooner rather than later. The kind way to describe it is like ripping a bandaid off, but really it's more like forcing someone into rehab. I think there needs to be a bit more awareness about the issues than that. Coal mining states, like West Virginia for example, deserve federal stimulus as the coal mining and coal fired plants are shut down. What I would envision would be a sort of deal with these areas rather than something top-down. This would be recognition of the inarguable good that those changes would do for society and the environment, as well as the precarious economic situation of coal mining-dependent families.
