The game outright crashes on my laptop now, I'm trying all kinds of settings trickery but it refuses to run more than 5 minutes before spazzing out and going blackscreen. Also the launcher completely forgot that it preloaded the patch and downloaded the whole thing over again today, ace work as usual PWE.

They did some stupid min/maxing crap with the graphics settings yesterday which are complete garbage regardless what you're using.

Options > Display > Resolution scale> 1.0. It had reset mine to 0.4 for some reason.
Set your antialiasing back to whatever it was you had it before too.

For me, most of my graphic settings that I usually have on or high was set to off or low and visa versa.

I'm not sure if it's just me or not, but the patch seems to have completely broken auto attack on the ground. :allears: It's set to "none" in the options menu, and changing it doesn't seem to do anything. Can change it, hit okay, and it'll not activate and stay listed as "none" when you check again.

Also one slot in my inventory is completely broken and apparently taken up by a blank junk item. I can click on it for an empty "info" window but that's it.

Don't discard that blank item. It's probably some key character trait that shouldn't be visible and support won't know how to fix if you lose it :v:

Also I'm gratified to see that even more bugs than I was expecting hit the general population.

I had almost no of these issues. I have the blank item. I had the ground auto fire issue, but I just changed that poo poo in options and it was fine. As to all the problems that pubbie had, the FE worked without trouble for me.

Don't worry I can't move or discard or do anything with it. I'd put in a ticket, but yeah I'll wait a while and see if some of the fixes do anything. The kit on one of my characters just vanished entirely into the aether, for example.

Those of you with broken interfaces, etc I am curious. Are you running old installs updated over time or have you fresh reinstalled any time in the past 12 months? Ideally on a non system drive.

I just ask because I'm one of the lucky ones with zero issues and I moved the install location (clean each time) a few times so I'm wondering if some legacy file(s) were simple forgotten about and updated badly.

So I played on PC for a month when the game first came out. Liked the space ship stuff, hated ground... ended up quiting, not really sure why.

Here I am today, just found out that I can play this on my bone from the couch, and I am finding it a way more enjoyable experience. Ground stuff is still tedious (I don't mind the combat, it's the stupid fetch and memorize 20 facts to turn on a console bs that I dislike). The space is awesome, I'm really surprised how well this adapted to the controller. And up till now I have been able to decipher most of the ambiguity of the UI. However I just got my first cruiser (been flying science vessels till I hit commander), and I am a bit confused on the cruiser commands.

Research tells me they are aura's that can be toggled on or off. However other than a pulse each time I press the ability, there is no discernible way to tell if the aura is on that I am noticing. Do I have to turn on the aura each time I enter a new system? Or once on does it stay on even through transitions to sector space or warping to other systems from within a mission?

Second question. Might there be a bone goon fleet going? Be nice to have some company once in a while. I'm not playing this hardcore or anything.

Third question - Space combat - Do I have to lock on to start shooting when there are multiple enemies in weapon range? I find that during multi ship combat, pointing my "reticle" at the thing I want to shoot, and pressing Rtrigger sometimes(most the time) does nothing. I am finding I have to do the Rstick click to lock to the target then I can fire. If that is the case wtf is the point of the reticle. In free mode it goes red over a valid target, so I figured I could just press R to start shooting that target, conversely when I am already shooting a target, unless I lock with the r stick on a new target I can't switch targets. This is really annoying as I find the Rstick targeting is really buggy, the left right target cycle is really buggy.

It's not about the performance. It's about the comfort of my couch. My pc is in the office, and these days that isolates me from my family. It's nice to be able to chill with a slow paced game on the couch while I help my 4 year old with whatever board game he has decided he wants to play this particular 5 minutes. At my pc/desk I get too absorbed.

And I'm not lugging my desktop back and forth between the living room and the office. Nor am I buying a wireless kb and mouse for it. I do not mind the console experience. I am not hardcore, and I could care less about the pc master race these days. I used to be a pretty hardcore pc only person but I have chilled. And I feel both sides offer good and bad things, but as long as you are gaming, then good for you.

*edit* I might be able to get one of my laptops back into service. But not sure on time frame.

People on Risa have been posting this forums post from 2014:

http://26thfleet.enjin.com/forum/m/9239612/viewthread/10929688-wendys-guide-to-surviving-starfleet-dental-other-trolls/forum/4332926

quote:

I thought about posting this after seeing a discussion about people who troll RP the other night in OOC chat. So, here is my guide to surviving trolls, focusing primarily on Dental.

The first thing you need to know about Dental especially is their members are by and large sociopaths. I realize that is a loaded term and please understand I do not mean the movie version who are serial killers and the like. I mean they literally show some of the classic signs, for example:

1) Show no shame, guilt or remorse - They enjoy upsetting others, it is literally what gives them pleasure.
2) Seek to dominate others and 'win' at all costs - Dental is practically built around these first two philosophies.
3) Never apologize - if they do it is generally just to set up you for their next plot.
4) Crave attention to an excessive degree - need I say more?

Now, here are the two rules I use to deal with these people.

1) Never, ever engage them. Period. This means don't PM them asking them nicely to leave you alone. Don't complain about their exploits in local or zone chat. Don't RP your character being frustrated by the 'kids'. Seriously. Do you want to see a member of Dental go apoplectic? Continue with your RP without pause, even as they jump up and down on the table in front of you while forcing your character to dance with one of those drat disco balls. I've done it before and it drives them crazy. I cannot stress this enough, they live for your reaction. If you show absolutely none they get bored and leave. If you get really lucky your absolute lack of response will provoke them into crossing a line that will allow you to report them.

2) If you must engage them don't call them names, don't show your anger, and don't cuss at them. One of the things Dental loves to do is provoke RPers into cussing them out at which point they promptly report them and get them chat bans or in some cases, temporary game bans. Furthermore, if you let your emotions show it gives them the pleasure they're after.

That's it. Using these two rules I have managed to successfully avoid being harassed by Dental for any length of time. The one time I did engage with one of them they got annoyed because I was super nice and calm in all of the tells we exchanged. I more or less carried out the conversation imagining how a Vulcan would interact with someone like them.

[10/29 3:21] [Local] Jarvis@captainbean2: Just another example of Dental's terrible reputation.

[10/29 3:22] [Local] Jarvis@captainbean2: It wasn't the fleet. It was all the trash coming from Dental. Expecially @tequilapastsa.

For those not in the loop, @strikefurry created a fleet called the ANTI-DENTAL EMPIRE with the purpose of "destroying" Dental, and quit his own fleet in less than a week because it was "too stressful" to lead the charge against the trolls. He also sent me angry tweets with an account he also used to post furry porn and called us hackers for calling him out on it.
