I ran an interdictor today, with Ozzel, Titus, Q7 Tractor Beams, Grav Well Projector, G-8 Experimental Projector, and the Interdictor title. This thing has a disgusting amount of control to it :stare: Shutting down a 3rd of the enemy deployment zone, dropping someone's speed by 1 at the start of round 1, picking on a random ship to drop its speed every time the Interdictor activates, and dropping the speed of someone who happens to activate nearby all conspire to make this ship great before it fires a single shot. Mine didn't even fire until round 5, after the VSD and GSD had cleaned up most of the opposing ships and my opponent decided to try and charge the interdictor with Home One. I had wanted to run a fleet without the ISD and with my Raider (I'd never fielded it, and I'm not totally convinced anyone ever has :v: ), so I ran the following:

Interdictor (supression refit)
Admiral Ozzel
Admiral Titus
Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams
G7-X Grav Well Projector
G-8 Experimental Projector
Interdictor title

Victory II Star Destroyer
Expanded Hangar Bay
X17 turbolasers

Raider I Corvette
Instigator title

Gladiator I Star Destroyer
Weapons liaison
Ordnance Experts
Rapid Reload
Demolisher title

Squadrons:
Howlrunner
3x TIE fighter squadrons

total points: 399/400

My opponent put a ton of points into squadrons (Luke, Wedge, Tycho, generic X-wing, generic B-wing), alongside an escort Nebulon B, Home One (Ackbar on board), and a Mon Cal torpedo frigate. It turned into an absolute slaughter. The Demolisher murdered both the Mon Cal torpedo frigate and the Neb B, while all my squadrons jumped Wedge and shot him down before he could even activate on turn 2. My Raider actually got into position to pin Tycho and the generic X-wing before killing Tycho and doing a space-burnout to the void (speed 1->speed 3 change, thanks Admiral Ozzel!). The gladiator took a heinous amount of punishment before getting put to bed by Home One in turn 5. It had killed both his smaller ships by that time, so I was fine with the trade. I kept my interdictor away from the fray, using it to troll the torpedo frigate from afar and keep it from reaching top speed. By the end, Home One was right on top of my Interdictor with none of my other ships nearby, but my Interdictor was healthy and Home One had no shields left to burn after dancing at close range with the Demolisher. I had 75 VP from the objective and 3 ships still on the table when the game ended, so it turned out to be a crushing imperial victory.

I fielded two of them in one match, both with only the tractor beam upgrade. For so cheap they were good at slowing down ships for my gladiator and ISD. I would definitely recommend them for cheap activation and anti-squadron duties. They get black dice against squads which have a 75% chance to hit.

That's a really odd list, just looking at it on paper I wouldn't rate it as difficult to deal with. I guess the strength comes from coordinating big damage spikes from the y-wings and mc30? Who was the fleet commander?

Dodonna. I thought the other guy got super impatient in trying to deal with this list.

Pittsburgh is stored in the balls.

It was a very high skill list.

Slow YT-1300s and HWKs keep the Y's safe and bombing while Toryn Farr gives Counter 1 and Anti-squadron rerolls. Bomber Command Center puts Y-wing damage to 1.25 / attack.

Admonition jumps in from the flank as the hammer to the Y-Wing's anvil.

In the final, his opponent definitely got trigger hapoy with his Gallant Haven - 6 games over 1.5 days will do that. But prescision fllying by Josiah was what won the day.

I've never played a CCG before (though I played Hearthstone now and again if that's similar), but SW Destiny looks fun and I'm going to FFG's demo event at their HQ tomorrow night. Any general ideas about what I should expect about buying boosters? Are these things we aren't going to know until the game is out for a few months?

I have been told by some people who play magic, that buying all cards you want/need as singles is usually the cheapest route. Just wait a couple of weeks to a month after the release of a new booster for the prices to settle out.

That may not apply to Destiny at first, but if it sticks around, it probably will.

You can already buy one of each legendary and two of each other card as a set for $300 which is much cheaper than cracking packs. If you're looking to seriously play do that.

Just played Star Wars Destiny. Went into the game store by my house looking to play another game, but no one was there for it. The store was supposed to be having a Star Wars Destiny prerelease event, so I asked about that. Turns out another guy was already there and had a couple of sets from an event yesterday, so he showed me the cards and how to play. It's pretty simple to pick up, and seemed fairly fast paced to play. Seems like it would definitely be an easy game to play for people who are really casual gamers (such as myself) or who have never played a collectible card game before. I picked up one of each of the starter decks so I could play with a friend. However, the prerelease event was supposed to start at 3 and no one was there at the time besides me and the guy I was playing, and only one other person showed up around 15 after. Maybe more got there after I left, maybe it was because the store announced the event on fairly short notice, or maybe it's just my area lacks people interested, but the lack of players at my store makes me question how long it'll survive.

This makes zero sense, statistically, they need to open something like 5.6 boxes to get a full set, and the booster boxes cost them $60, so $336, they are basically promising to sell them at a loss.

My local store just had the pre-launch party, had 18 people show up and everyone had a great time. I think this game is going to do very well. Interested to see how the singles market develops though.

My local store had the Destiny event last night. I think a total of 18 or so people stopped by to pick up the starter sets and boosters. Then about 12 people played a little three round tourney for some Star Wars art card sleeves.

It was more fun than I remember Magic being 15 years ago. I haven't sat down and tried some deck building with it yet, but the starter set leads me to believe that the game has a fairly decent amount of strategy to it. The timing of when to activate characters or dice can really alter a turn.

I've been playing destiny a bit on TTS and there is a surprising amount of depth and strategy considering it is a dice game.

There is a lot of dice mitigation available, including being able to discard a card from your hand to reroll as many dice as you want. This plays into a really interesting resource management mechanic because you lose the game if you run out of cards in your hand and deck so every time you discard to reroll your opponent gets a little closer to a win condition.

So far most games I've played have been pretty close and it's definitely been a lot of fun. For me it'll be a good secondary game to play in between rounds of X-Wing. It helps that all the people I play X-Wing with are buying into it in a big way.

So does Destiny do booster packs like a normal MTG type card game or is it doing expansion type things like Armada and X-Wing do where you know exactly what you're getting when you buy something?

I'm vaguely interested in getting into it but the person i'd be playing with doesn't quite care for Magic type gameplay that isn't Pokemon for some reason.

Collectible, random boosters.

I'm told by someone who likes the game that since the decks are pretty small, you're not cracking open entire cases to find the cards you want. No idea if that's true, maybe he's justifying his purchase

If you break it down mathematically,

The Set has:
17 legendary
44 Rares
42 Uncommons
58 Commons

Each box has
6 legendary
30 Rares
36 Uncommons
108 Commons

Here are your odds of getting a set of 1 of each of the legendary based on the number of boxes you open

5 boxes = 2.2%
6 boxes = 9.0%
7 boxes = 20.9%
8 boxes = 35.3%
9 boxes = 49.6%
10 boxes = 62.1%
11 boxes = 72.2%
12 boxes = 80.0%
13 boxes = 85.7%

6 boxes per case btw. Should also note that a box is $107.64 + tax at full retail.

With the exception of Kylo Ren and Rey, yes this is correct. however Ive found so far that fielding most Elites is very hard to do, I pulled Vader at the pre=release party, and I dont think he is worth his elite status, his dice sides are alright, but he has no special, so id rather run him with an elite Kylo Ren. Vader is pointed at 16/21.

I have a feeling that the elite version of unique characters was only included as a way to fill in 3-5 points in lists. This way they can limit the generic characters to a minimum of 7 points, and not have to worry about designing a character die for 5 points that doesn't break the game to pieces. I can definitely see some synergy between two characters that doesn't leave the 7 points needed for a generic, but might have enough to fit the elite version of one of them.
