We all know that this nation was founded on racism, inequality, and atrocities. No one disputes that here. However, this is a sentiment that we could rise above that and make something good and welcoming despite it at and all you see is a chance to air your grievances in hr most petty way? I am a slave descendant and also have Native American blood. I know that pretty much all of this country's history has been dedicated to attacking my ancestors. I still believe in the ideals of a place that all could be welcomed and equal. It's a beautiful sentiment that I hope we could someday live up to. It's something to aspire to rather than sit around and let bitterness consume us. I'm not suggesting just forgiving all the country's crimes. Just that we could believe that the chance to eventually grow into a country worthy of those words is something to at least hope for. The combination of a fired up right and depressed left will almost certainly keep the Senate in GOP hands even if the presidency is a bridge too far. These people wouldn't have voted HRC anyway. There is literally nothing of substance in this new "investigation" so they were basically waiting for the word email to pop in a headline to justify not voting Clinton.

That Old Tree posted:Voting area sanctity also helps protect other people from getting their poo poo snapped when they should absolutely be able to expect enhanced privacy. This, plus simple time factors. If someone is excited to vote and wants to share their vote, they can write about it, talk about it, share their list of candidate choices, etc. Trying to make a ballot selfie look cool or interesting is pretty much impossible, so they'll definitely waste time and possibly violate someone else's privacy, trying to get a 'good' pic. My early voting site had a wait over half an hour. Other locations that week in the same state had waits over four hours. Ballot selfies are some poo poo when your state is run by Republicans who are doing everything legally possible (and more!) to suppress voters.

Tracking polls are utter garbage in determining the size of swings (or the current predictable vote totals). That being said, they can detect the EXISTENCE of swings, which is why it's fairly safe to say that the race has trended towards Trump over the past week, as the third debate fades from memory.

It's still bad form to cynically sneer at someone that finds the statue of liberty inspiring. Its message just as relevant today and its one that should be taken to heart, instead of dismissed because it's a statue of a white lady. I like gfsincere's posting, but that was a real loving dumb thing to say. On an unrelated note, has the recent e-mail thing hurt the downticket races? Look at how few people will say he has the temperament or qualifications to be president in polls, even polls he's doing okay in. Just, well, he's got that R. This was pretty much always going to happen. What's interesting is that every time it gets close, Hillary's soft support, the people who want her to win but don't want to sully themselves with a vote for Killary Kkklinton, start to come back around. I think that, with the flurry of polling you get right around election day, you'll see that here, too-- if people go into the voting booth hearing it's within a few points nationally or maybe even within a point or two in their state, they'll be less likely to vote for Wi-Fi Gremlins or What's An Aleppo. But what do I know, undecided and third party voters make their decisions on the whims of chance and the flights of birds, so predicting their movements is inherently impossible, like attempting to compute quantum behaviors with a classical model.
