BiggerBoat posted:Oh, well, since you put it that way I guess I better vote for Trump just in case. Kidding aside, I don't see the story here; like at all. Or is it just "heh heh Weiner is a scumbag and his penis"? No, you got it. The maddening thing is that despite the fact that there IS NO STORY, it will nonetheless have an adverse effect on the election because the media, in concert, shouting "EMAILS! CLINTON BAD!" for a few days will likely have a measurable effect on polling in Trump's favor. Hopefully it's no more than a few days, and hopefully the effect is really small, but we aren't in control of any of that.

But from the perspective of a pretty well off working professional, I see early voting (if available) as the obvious and only way to go for people like me regardless of your politics. Most affluent people aren't in the zone of affluence where you completely make your own schedule, own the company etc. and are in complete control of your time. Even among the affluent that's a much smaller minority. Since most people with money are making the money by working, and often working reasonably long hours, Early Voting would seem like the obvious way to go simply because you can fit it into a busy schedule somewhere over the course of a week or two.

Nessus posted:OK, so - assuming this drat email file actually does contain a couple of emails Huma sent from Weiner's computer, as opposed to "emails Huma sent to Weiner from work, possibly about dinner or returning the netflix DVDs" - she did not in fact commit perjury, as she very likely legitimately forgot about tapping out a couple of emails in 2011. Oh no, it's even dumber than you're expecting. Huma testified to the FBI that she would forward specific files that Hillary wanted printed out to herself, print them out, and give them to her. Hillary apparently doesn't like reading off a screen and prefers paper, because she's old. So the FBI expects that Huma would have State Department emails on her personal devices. The FBI found a cache of emails on a computer owned by the estranged husband of Huma. The emails are Huma's and thus need whole new warrants in order for the FBI to open and read them. The FBI fully expects that Huma would be looking at State emails on a non-State computer because that is completely in line with her answers during questioning. All the FBI really knows is that these are Huma's emails and can range in DASTARDLY content from "hey, wanna grab drinks Tuesday?" to "FW:FW:Please Print -H". Given the absolute 6th Degrees of Keven Bacon way in which you must tie these emails, that absolutely no one but Huma has even opened, to Hillary, Director Comey felt it was just his gosh darn duty to send a vaguely worded and opaque memo to a Congress that was in recess about possible facts that may exist after the election happens. We're all just very lucky that Chaffetz appears to have at least had the self control not to tweet out "FBI reopens the investigation!!!!!" after Comey's first series of memos that detailed how it was theoretically possible that we're living in the Matrix and Hillary was simply colluding with the machines to hide her emails. Just want to keep you in the loop -Jim.

Facebook already stopped having humans curate trending news stories because the easily-disprovable bullshit the RWM revels in didn't make it past them. Now they're going entirely by an algorithm, which very frequently picks up extremely dubious and even provably false stories. And now THAT'S not good enough for you? gently caress off, Donald. This wouldn't piss me off so much if it wasn't for the fact that there's a huge portion of the population that doesn't know how to evaluate the trustworthiness of news sources and take everything they see posted on facebook that goes along with their pre-existing beliefs at face value.

European goon here. Most of us are wondering why Weiner and Abedin weren't politically ripped apart after the first pornstar sexting scandal and banned from ever being within a 20 mile radius of another living democrat. We're also wondering why there aren't more serious consequences to what is a blatant attempt at influencing the result of a presidential election by none other than the loving FBI director, an individual that clearly can't legally push a political agenda, 11 loving days before said election.
