I don't really have anything constructive to say except that I think gfsincere is a good poster. Symbols don't mean the same thing for everyone. How is this controversial? I mean, do most of us like this part of the Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"? Probably. But it shouldn't be controversial to say that this was penned by some racists. And if that is true it shouldn't be controversial to say that some people might not view that line as some super awesome quote of hope. I mean, gently caress. Do I like the Statue of Liberty. Yea. But I am also 50% Italian American and 50% Irish American. So, my family was the huddled masses that America (reluctantly) accepted. Do I like the DoI? Ya. But that is cause I think it has a good message despite what the original authors intended.
