Everywhere else in China is just contracted brewing where rice is the major ingredient like Budweiser. There's also a craft brewery scene in the major cities because you can get cheap industrial brewing equipment from tao bao. The de facto national beer in China in terms of liters downed is Snow. It's the most popular beer in the world by a lot. Considering that it's only available in China, enough is consumed so that everyone in China drinks 10L annually.

Whether they were warned from the surrounding area or from the police/government is different between different places from what I remember from the discussions with the people that study this. That was when they actually bothered to do it though; there's a lot of pressure from foreign multinationals to, let us say, be lax in enforcing certain laws? And seeing as the slaves are usually not very rich or powerful but the owners of the cocoa plantations are, well. That and when they tried it just ends up with a lot of dead people and no convictions. Haven't really been following it since this was happening so they might have figured out a better way to do it.

Considering that it's only available in China, enough is consumed so that everyone in China drinks 10L annually. Snow is fashioning for two reasons 1. It is the most consumed beer in the world but I never see anyone drinkin it...ever. All my friends, Chinese or foreign, always go Harbin or Tsingdao, but every day, walking to work, there are Snow beer bottle caps all over the street. Even when I'm out late at night I never see anyone drinking it. WHO IS DRINKING IT? 2. It's written sideways so a lot of people, myself included, think it is called "MONS" when they first see it. I called it MONS for a bit before someone said "lol its snow you moron" and I was like "oh yeah I knew that haha"

Using a keyboard to write Chinese in China, HK, and Taiwan all have different systems that are so lovely. I've been professional Chinese secretaries take agonizingly long to type on keyboards and continually needing to delete, go back to the base radical and search for the right character. It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Like I've never even met a Chinese person who would say that. They always have told me there's no way Chinese will ever become the world language specifically because nobody wants to learn how to read/write it. Anecdotally Chinese people always seem completely shocked how fast I type, and I'm not not like an absurdly fast typer or anything. But when I see how long it takes to type Chinese on a computer it makes sense. nickmeister posted:What's this talk about it taking forever to type in Chinese? I'm happy when a restaurant even has loving Harbin because it's so rare to have any option other than Snow. In Sichuan I basically never see anyone drinking. If they are it's tiny glasses of Snow, which has an alcohol content below 2%.

Ive never been to china but i went to get chinese tonight caus eim alone and lonely and moved into a box room and wanted to try the local cuisine and "splurge". as you see i chose chinese because of this thread. i dont know where the man was from, but after i ordered my chow mein extra spicy i asked What Is Ho Fun, is it like noodles? he just repeated to me every option of Ho Fun while pointing at them on the menu and so I said, yes thank you i can see that, but what is Ho Fun? and he said " it best, you try. better " and i said so its like chow mein and he said "you try, its best, everyone buy it" and left. I looked it up and it does look better. i wish i asked him first but also that he would have told me what the Ho Fun was. in consequence i had no fun. but it was pretty good chow mein tbf. oh well thanks random man. also here in the uk there's lots of different places that say szechaun, hong kong something or other, and something about thai. where are these immigrants from i wonder? hong kong? and why such a wide spread of options. hmm. wasnt like that in the states well thanks for letting me talk about my dinner
