Since it's almost election time and it's on my mind... people who don't vote. Voter turnout in my country is embarrassingly low, especially among women and minorities. Now, I'm not talking about people who want to vote, but can't. Like, they work horrific hours and can't get the time off, or whatever. Hey, I understand. My beef is not with them. My beef is with the chucklefucks who don't vote because "Lol it doesn't matter, nothing ever changes, my vote doesn't count anyway." gently caress you. This attitude is exactly why things are the way they are! How is not voting going to make things any better?! I don't get it at all. The low turnout among women especially kills me. The Women's Suffrage Movement was decades of fighting and blood, sweat, and tears. Women starved themselves and even died over it, and you won't go out and exercise that hard-won right?

I feel kinda bad saying this because at the same time I don't entirely mind, but do I have to be the person to whom my friends vent for all of my friends (or at least it feels like)? I think a lot of people just don't know what their options are for early/absentee voting, too. Of course if you live in a state which doesn't offer much in this regard, that doesn't do much good, but it's worth doing a bit of research. I voted by mail this year and I am never ever going back. (Just don't fall for stupid "VOTE BY RETWEET #totallynotascam" scams.)

I have a few coworkers who have given me the whole "my vote doesn't matter, it's all a scam anyway" spiel and it drives me insane. One of them in particular is a vocal feminist who posts a ton of progressive political stuff on Facebook. Why the gently caress would you bother trying to raise awareness for these issues if you don't think anything's going to change, and you're not even willing to put in the tiniest modicum of effort to affect poo poo? I also hate how they always say it like I'm an idiot for ever believing otherwise. That smug loving bitterness. "Oh, I don't waste my time voting, it's not like they even count them" I mean, I remember having that attitude when I was an edgy shithead teenager... but I also believed every lovely conspiracy theory I could get my hands on. I grew out of that phase by the time I was 20.

Do you freak out like this if someone says something like "great weather we are having isn't it"? It's innocuous friendly small talk. Just say yeah it is thanks or something and move on. They aren't asking for a detailed description of anything. Maybe they will as a followup but would it kill you to be like "it's _____ i'll send you a recipe"? You don't even have to send the recipe either. You aren't a poorly trained dog, you shouldn't be reacting aggressively when someone approaches you while shoving food in your face.

There aren't any restrictions at all on voting by mail where I live (beyond 'can you fill out a simple form on the website to request an absentee ballot', I guess). I'm coming to appreciate that Minnesota has great voting laws, though; you can register at the poll the day of the election (with proof of residency or another registered voter to vouch for you), mandated time off to vote (your employer must pay you for the time you spend voting and cannot make you use PTO or similar), etc. I'm well aware this is not the norm countrywide, much less worldwide. Does Australia have mandatory voting, or did I just imagine that?

I read during lunch and twice now a coworker has said something along the lines of "you should fully concentrate on what you do, be aware of what you eat, doing both at one time just means you won't enjoy either". Bitch this is the one half hour I get to spend away from my desk and as good as my lunch is it's not gonna sufficiently distract me from the fact that I'll have to go back soon. Mine handles all those stupid hoops for refills (though they're based out of the same clinic as my doctor, a clinic owned by my insurance company, and that probably makes a difference). I've been looking into it (and I think next month we'll try to switch to the pharmacy closer to his work for convenience) and I'll definitely have to call the closer sleep center and see about referrals and if his doctor can transfer records or whatever. but uh, haha, I called yesterday and this dude said he'd call me back. he never did. I called twice today, once earlier and they said they'd 'call me back' and didn't. I called again a few minutes ago, they asked who I had spoken to yesterday. found out that the dude was (most likely, based on her word choice) fired and that he was working there for the same time frame we've been having issues with getting his meds. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ oooookay I think they're finally having it taken care of and the one person I've talked to was pretty nice about it. I'm assuming the dude was the one responsible for dealing with prescriptions, since they often transferred my call to him, and he just never did it right or something. I feel bad for the other staff there, but at the same time they really had poor communication with me and my husband about this stuff.

People need to vote every chance they get, not just during Presidential elections. I understand it can be a challenge when Republicans pass laws to make it difficult for women and minorities (mainly Democrat) to vote and that's why we need to get rid of those fuckers. Not WHILE they're playing, that would be fine, but while they're standing around after or in between sets (matches?). They stand in a line outside the courts just screaming at each other. It'd be fine on a soccer field or at a party--it's all good-natured ribbing--but in a quiet gym at 7 am, it's a little unnecessary, and they don't seem to notice how they're the only ones making a ton of noise. The younger ones can usually find their inside voices, but the middle-aged and older have to shout at each other.
