I bet you never guessed you'd get to time travel for real. Yes, for the next 4 years you get to live through the Harding administration. Hardworld. Yes, it will be a hard world. Comic relief: Wikipedia's page of the day is Taft, America's fattest ever president *up to January 2017

Schnorkles posted:If Trump is just bog-standard institutional republican and his administration is just a complicated dance between Pence, McConnell, and Ryan then that's really lovely, but probably not existentially threatening. He's impossible to work with due to his personality disorder, and do to his habit of leadership through hindsight (saying 2 things, picking the one that was right later and emphasizing his good judgement). An ideal situation would be an inner circle governing things, encouraging Trump to Hugo Chavez it up as much as possible, and leaning on Breitbart to feed him news stories to keep him from going totally off the reservation.

Shark Sandwich posted:I don't mind the Bernie/Hillary infighting because we're all angry right now but hopefully that cools off so the Left can maybe be a viable party again. It's not like it's hindsight. Democrats were warned, they still insisted on nominating a terrible candidate. Learn something, for once, Democrats. The polling always showed Bernie as a stronger general candidate. This isn't insane theorizing, it's just facts you ignored because you didn't like them. Fiction posted:This is a great message to give to poor struggling people and definitely not why we have president trump lol. The reality is that they're hosed. That's the hard truth. What are we going to do? Those jobs aren't coming back, even if you waved a magic wand. Even if you banned all trade, they wouldn't get back their jobs. What they need is something the government can't provide. The government can try to strike deals, but who would want to do manufacturing work in America, really? The cost of living is too high there to set wages low enough to justify it so no one will take up the deal, not to mention minimum wage. I get the angier and I get the feels, but the only answer you can give is lies. I guess that's what they wanted.

Neurolimal posted:Can you say, with a straight face, that Bernie would have lost Michigan? That Bernie vs. Trump would have lead to the same result of D turnout being almost half of what it was in 2012? No because I can't say that Gay Black Hitler would've made it to the Gates of Moscow either. It may be true but it's not something any of us can prove. I can see a candidate who was more popular with working whites could do it, but there are so many events between the start of the primaries and now none of us can unequivocally state that about Bernie. I'm not saying Bernie would have or would not have won. I'm saying rather then get into that territory it's more productive to dissect what happened and plan for the future. Personally, I was never too hot on Bernie but in retrospect I think he could have done better. That being said, I'd rather have our collective rage and anguish and take what we've learned for 2018 and 2020 because at this point we're arguing over hypotheticals for some form of catharsis.
