the australian medicare system itself can be a bit convoluted the first few times, i have to say. there are some places where you pay out of pocket and get reimbursed, some places where you don't pay out of pocket at the time of service but the govt. sends you a check which you then forward to the doc (which is loving weird), and some where there's direct billing from the doc to the govt so you just walk in and out and never have to handle any money at all.

basically any one of those systems is fine, the confusing bit is that different places have different practices. overall still not much of a hassle, you just have to figure out which way they're doing things at the particular place you're going to

my health insurance costs me a pound of flesh every month. it only pays for around 15% of my bills until i've paid something like $5k out of pocket, then it goes up to 80/20. after that, once i've paid 15-thousand-loving dollars of my own money on deductible, it goes full coverage. it resets every year too. and i have to hound them to send me a check every time i submit a claim.

boo hoo american insurance everyone knows the story, but sometimes i have to type it out for catharsis

i could talk abt this poo poo all day but, tldr originally medicare was simple and good, it got hosed up, and only somewhat unfucked.
the split between bulk-billing (direct billing the govt) and out-of-pocket but reimbursed is basically because the amount medicare pays to docs hasn't changed in loving forever, mostly because one side of politics doesn't believe in cheap healthcare and the other cant be hosed.
Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme is also having the same issue with 'price signalling' poo poo, i pay about $150 for medication a month - probably sounds normal (or even small, to americans) but its also a pretty huge burden on my budget lol

antidepressant, beta blocker, benzo, melatonin, hrt, etc, adds up pretty fast. $150's a bit of an exaggeration but it's somewhere between $100 and $150

https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_57,_Parole_for_Non-Violent_Criminals_and_Juvenile_Court_Trial_Requirements_(2016)
measure to reduce the number of non-violent offenders in prison (this is a good thing)

apparently yall already classify some sex offences as non-violent, or something? which would be the issue here?

honestly ballotpedia is a pain in the rear end to read, and it doesn't state what is likely to be misinformation, etc

Prop 60 (make mandatory the use of condoms in porn) didn't pass though, which is probably a good thing, if only for preventing accidents and injuries.

it's good that prop 60 didn't pass bc it's functionally meaningless (professional porn studios require that their actors get tested all the time anyway) and it would just push the industry out of the state and/or into underground situations where the reduced oversight would probably lead to more disease transmission. also it was primarily funded by some weird puritan group with a false-flag name ("the AIDS healthcare foundation") so it was probably just purse-clutching from the beginning.

stupid.

Also would allow anyone to sue a porn actor if they didn't use a condom or they didn't see one being usedused.
