Trig Discipline posted:the australian medicare system itself can be a bit convoluted the first few times, i have to say. there are some places where you pay out of pocket and get reimbursed, some places where you don't pay out of pocket at the time of service but the govt. sends you a check which you then forward to the doc (which is loving weird), and some where there's direct billing from the doc to the govt so you just walk in and out and never have to handle any money at all. my health insurance costs me a pound of flesh every month. it only pays for around 15% of my bills until i've paid something like $5k out of pocket, then it goes up to 80/20. after that, once i've paid 15-thousand-loving dollars of my own money on deductible, it goes full coverage. it resets every year too. and i have to hound them to send me a check every time i submit a claim. boo hoo american insurance everyone knows the story, but sometimes i have to type it out for catharsis

Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme is also having the same issue with 'price signalling' poo poo, i pay about $150 for medication a month - probably sounds normal (or even small, to americans) but its also a pretty huge burden on my budget lol Roosevelt posted:for some reason that reminded me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VufilzHKTqk Red Fang owns
