Regarding Hillary's failure to promise "something" as opposed to simply running against Trump: Democrats have a credibility problem as they're in no position to deliver on anything they promise. Given the current intransigence of the Republican party, Democrats need to control the House and Senate to pass anything. The Republicans are guaranteed the house until 2020, and quite possibly through to 2030. Obama could never really deliver on the "Hope and Change" rhetoric (even if he wanted to), and the resulting disillusionment have contributed to the depressed Democrat turnout seen in 2014 and this past week. The Democrats can try to push a socialist agenda, but need to make it clear to potential supporters that nothing can be done until they retake congress. It will be a tricky argument, as it's not clear Democrats can control congress in the foreseeable future. edit: VVVV Hillary wasn't exactly wrong, either would have played roughly the same role as president in terms of vetoing whatever nonsense Republicans threw their way.
