Radish posted:Trump ran a racist campaign straight up. You can't just ignore that and assume that well people are angry about their jobs.. so they deserve a pass. It's the same stuff that's pushed by far right groups in Europe where they talk about the evil Polish/Jews/Albanians/whatever stealing the jobs of good "natural" citizens. No one should be saying that Greeks should be reaching out to the Golden Dawn or that British people need to learn from UKIP. There's plenty of people in this country that have shown they are willing to vote if the candidate actually tries to appeal to them, which Clinton apparently did not, without resorting to trying to reach across and steal people that, at best, are totally accepting of a blatantly racist platform if they get some benefit and at worst are actively promoting it as a benefit.

Question: How difficult will it be for the republicans, now that they have complete control of the federal government, to abolish voting and install Trump as president for life? At this point I assume that Trump can do anything he wants to, literally no one has been able to stop him and I don't see why congressional republicans, state governments, the courts or the military will be different.

Demographics as Destiny is not happening any time soon guys. The day when whites become a minority in America is still a long way off, and even then blacks aren't winning poo poo on their own because the Hispanic vote isn't a unified thing. Hispanics identify more closely along nation of origin lines than as a full bloc, with lots of variety within group. Lol if you think Cubans and Puerto Ricans have much of anything in common besides complexion. I'm sorry black people. You're always going to need whites and Hispanic allies to accomplish anything in this nation. You will never be strong enough to do it on your own.

This isn't about 'lol people lie', this is about 'I don't want to care'. Everyone loving knew this was what was going to happen if Trump won, that's why there was so much emphasis on 'running up the score', to loudly refute his racist, bigoted bullshit excuse for a campaign. Now he won and all those shitheads out there, the ones posting nonstop sewage on every internet comment and twitter feed in sight, the ones attending his rallies and beating up black people, the ones waving nazi flags and shouting 'Jew S. The election was lost because the base didn't turn out. But that isn't just the liberal base, the democratic base is complicated and multi faceted. You can't just look at dinner exit polling and a few locations turn out to determine it. You are going to need to do some research studies to really determine who didn't show up and why.

I went back to this Mark Ames article from the 2004 election and while some things have changed I think a large part of it is relevant, especially now.Mark Ames posted:Spite-voters also lack the sense that they have a stake in America’s future. That’s another area that separates the spite-bloc’s way of thinking from the progressive-left that wants to help them. There is something proprietary implied in all of the didacticism and concern found in the left’s tone—and they do all have that grating, caring tone, it’s built into the foundations of their whole structure. But consider this: The left struggles to understand why so many non-millionaire Americans vote Republican, and yet they rarely ask themselves why so many millionaires, particularly the most beautiful and privileged millionaires in Manhattan and Los Angeles, vote for the Democrats. http://exiledonline.com/we-the-spiteful/

This is so loving dumb. The rich have used race to divide the lower classes in this country for as long as it's existed and now we just got hosed over by it again. How can a person ever seriously argue "race or class issues?" as if that's not a ludicrous way to view what are two massively intertwined issues? As long as liberals/Democrats view it as a zero-sum decision they have to make then we are hosed. Not a Step posted:Demographics as Destiny is not happening any time soon guys.
