No. No we have nightmares enough thank you, Black-Green could work out, but doesn't give a majority either. lovely. That's all answers in sequence.

Torrannor posted:So Chris Christie is competent? Or is Gabriel incompetent at impersonating Chris Christie? I mean, Gabriel has no bridgegate. Besides, Maas is all right, what's your problem with him? Especially when you have idiots like Dobrindt or Öttinger running around. Randler fucked around with this message at 19:40 on Nov 10, 2016 |

It's probably got to do with the whole "businessman" meme Trump has going on. Since he has no political experience whatsoever, his followers have convinced themselves that he'll just take over the government and run it like a private enterprise, using his proven business acumen. I guess randomly dumping money into places is their latest attempt to reconcile that idea and reality.

Hasn't every other party said "hell no" to the thought of AfD in government? If that's true, they'd have to get 51% on their own as far as I understand German politics. Which is pretty much impossible even for a mainstream party.

Actually there was like one or two crazies from the CDU out of East Germany that talked about the possibility of a CDU-AfD Coalition, if the SPD was to get together with the Linke.

The people elected in the districts are subtracted from the total allotment, the rest is filled up from the state parties' lists. (Somewhat simplified, but it's the gist of how it works.) Oh poo poo, that's even better. So if all Abgeordnete came from the same party, but the Zweitstimmen-Verteilung had that party only at a relatively low percentage, the Bundestag could get very huge?

Under certain circumstances you may find that a party that only got 40% or so of votes gets 50% of the seats. Right now 40% for the AfD is utterly ludicrous, of course, but I'm fairly confident that a double-digit result is not only possible but even likely.

A prominent example being the CSU at the state election in 2003, where they got 61,something% of the popular vote iirc, but ended up with more than two-thirds of the seats Unrelated, but I looked something else up while I wrote the above and realised that in the 1972 election, Union and SPD together accounted for 90,7% of the popular vote In 2009, it was 56,8%, though it has recovered somewhat by now ofc. No recovery for the Austrian Volksparteien - in 1975, ÖVP and SPÖ together got 93,3% and current polling sees them at somewhere between 45% and 48%. How the mighty have fallen
