Crowsbeak posted:I probably should get a cat. But frankly why should we allow monsters to exist? Are you trying to honeypot someone into calling for Stalinist purges? You don't murder people with bad ideas because murder is wrong. Far below that basic concept, such methods cannot be accepted because tables turn - you, and no one, gets to be the ubermench who declares a group (even reprehensible politicians) subhuman and ripe for extermination or gulaging or whatever. Almost everyone thinks they're doing "the right thing," and we can't allow people to end the existence of their opponents, however awful, just because they're super duper sure they're doing the right thing this time. Finally, its far more effective and powerful to prove an idea wrong and bad then to simply silence it altogether, as if it had real power. We shouldn't have to hide from these rear end in a top hat's ideas - we should expose them and make them live to see their most fundamental beliefs and goals utterly rejected. I'm losing faith in the idea that we can accomplish that - but we have to try. I hate these assholes a lot too. They are monstrous. But let's beat them without becoming monsters ourselves, or opening the door for even worse monsters down the road. That said: let's loving beat them ASAP.

There's a 50/50 chance that Republicans will try to put Hillary Clinton in jail and start attacks on the Clinton Foundation. So here is the thing Republicans want to not only destroy her legacy, they want to physically imprison her, they want to destroy a non profit foundation that helps thousands of people, and then for good measure probably burn down their homes and salt the earth that they stood on. Yeah, she probably does want to at least appear to be mature and civil about this.

Politics is all about smiling and shaking hands with people and talking about how they are going to destroy the country a minute later. Obama building a relationship with Trump over the next few months is a good thing. Remember that Trump highly values his personal relationships and Democrats are still able to talk to the President even if the President isn't a Democrat.

Internet Kraken posted:Yeah Trump was talking about how we need to repair our infrastructure so people can commute to their jobs effectively. also, because like 90% of all commuters commute by car, by themselves, and most of those use an interstate highway, this infrastructure funding if it happens will certainly be in the form of increased road construction. not only because it's super difficult for the federal government to fund trains, but also because trains are widely unpopular except in the urban areas they serve - which is why local jurisdictions take it upon themselves to fund expanded train projects. which is one of the brighter notes of this last election, pretty much every major metro with transit funding on the ballot passed those measures. in atlanta, voters approved a .4% sales tax increase which is going to raise $300m over 5 years and $2.5b over 40 years for transit

Perhapsae at the end of the day the only thing that can destroy a monster is a monster. We learned that well in WW2. Also why would any regime murder people? Its much better for any regime to convince people that they are wrong so that they can then be wheeled in front of the remaining fallowers and be told they should love the new system.
