I guess I'm just stating the obvious here, but god drat the new Vader is some great poo poo. Zero frills, zero loving around, just a half hour of goddamn meaty thrashy death metal. It's like I went to Vader and was like "Hey Vader gimme a new album" and Vader were like "ok" and all punched me in the face and this album fell out. Death Magnetic with Beyond Magnetic mixed in, and maybe one or two songs removed, probably would've been a better double album.

I think we are all brainwashed because all the Metallica albums in the 90s were crap, and this one is mediocre at best so it seems "better".

Welp, last time I actually posted in MetalThread (still read it once a week or so) was like three years ago, which was the last time my sluggish band released music. Well guess what idiots, I'm back to push some more music on you. I'm in Children of the Reptile, we're from NC, and we just put out a new EP, called "The Four Weapons EP". Think Manilla Road meets Iron Maiden with a lot of Slough Feg thrown in for good measure. My rear end in a top hat way to describe us is "a contemporary take on traditional heavy metal." Lots of twin guitar leads, mostly clean singing. (although I switch to blackened growling when the music calls for it) If you're interested, have a listen. If you're turned on, maybe consider downloading it, it's only 5 bucks, runs about 23 minutes. If you REALLLLY like it, you can also follow the link on our bandcamp to our first album, which is a full length. Oh, and check out this loving album art by Andrew Ohlmann. If this doesn't sell it, then, well, go gently caress yourself! Thanks for indulging my sales pitch guys, now I will fade back into the abyss. i think the new metallica is a blast, personally. https://cotr.bandcamp.com/album/the-four-weapons-ep https://cotr.bandcamp.com/album/the-four-weapons-ep

Laserface posted:It was more a current state of Metallica thing than anything else. The album is definitely a step in the right direction and is enjoyable to listen to, but its not without issues. Basically my view as well. The album could have been trimmed both in the number of songs and the length of them. Metallica have forgotten the value of "less is more", kinda like they did in AJFA. My main problem with AJFA is how a lot of songs could have been trimmed in length. RtL, MoP, Black have better flow and momentum in their songs in that regard. It is not that long songs are inherently bad, Master of Puppets and Creeping Death are good examples of long songs with good momentum. Better than Death Magnetic so far, but time will tell on that. Also no Unforgiven III, where 1 was enough. Hetfields voice feels kinda tryhard in songs like Hardwired, but a lot more fitting in Moth into flame. "Now That we are dead" is probably my favourite so far.

I kinda liked the new Hail Spirit Noir when it came out, but now that it's sunk in, I love it. Dark, psychedelic, heavy, wretched, discordant and weird as hell with organs and all kinds of poo poo. For those who have not listened before, think of a heavier Ghost with better instrumentals and vocals with an extra layer of madness and Scoobydoo. I just wish the bass drum was higher in the mix, there's a badass flurry of bass drums in 'Lost in Satan's Charms' over the clean vocals, but you can barely hear them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFbyb5wvG_M

Obviously a lot of the stuff is pretty samey and forgettable, but I've found some real drat gems in there. This is a couple weeks ago but I'm digging that Nevesis album a lot, reminds me of early 90s Kyuss without falling into the nostalgia trap like a lot of bands. The first half of the Churchhouse Creepers album is great but I lost interest halfway through, probably owing to the repetitiveness. Thanks for posting these.

I know a lot of people say In Flames best albums are whoracle, Jester race and colony but man Clayman is drat good. I been listening to it again lately because their new album wasn't that good. The first three tracks in Clayman, Bulletride, Pinball Map and Only for the Weak is probably one of the best starts to an album.

Just saw Vektor's tour, and holy gently caress that was amazing. Missed the first two bands because parking in D.C. is akin to purgatory. Caught the latter half of Silent on Fifth Street. While I normally don't like deathcore, they were alright. Crawling Manifest was great and reminded me of Sabaton. Black Fast was amazing, and Vektor...Christ, man. Terminal Redux in its entirety, non-stop pit...unreal. loving unreal. Happy loving Thanksgiving.

The first three tracks in Clayman, Bulletride, Pinball Map and Only for the Weak is probably one of the best starts to an album. A lot of people are wrong. Clayman is their best record by far and is the transition point between melodic death metal and whatever they are now. Whoracle, Jester Race and Colony are good, but they are also kinda indistinguishable from one another. I have issues pinpointing which song belong to which of them, which is something I don't have with Clayman. Same goes for their latter albums. The funny thing about In Flames and death metal in general was that I listened to Clayman, then heard their versions of Pallar Anders Visa and Hargalåten (which are traditional Swedish folk music songs) and realized that Swedish folk music tunes are something that is a thing in early In Flames records (after Lunar/Subterranean). So I basically started listening due to death metal due to folk music. We should talk more about the corrupting influence of folk music in other words.
