Cuba might have successfully educated and fed its populace and have s better infant mortality rate than the us while under embargo but have you considered that they were really mean to reactionaries???

Cuba is an interesting case: Are personal freedoms more important than the material well being of the people? There is no clear answer.

I can't imagine why Cuba would be worried about reactionaries. I mean look at the history of South and Central America and I can't see anything that would give them pause.

The personal freedom to support a politics of abandonment and neglect as represented in the Republican and Democratic parties aren't as important as food security, public healthcare, etc. imo.

Cuba also has a superior emergency response system, and regularly faces down powerful hurricanes with minimal loss of life despite being the most populated country in the Caribbean. They're more prepared to deal with climate change than we are.

Its not just the USA my friend. Your revolution was more about freedom, except for slaves, than material things. Batistas Cuba was a backwards country and Batista himself was a dictator.

Western countries that had centuries head start to create wealth, industrialisation with slave labor, and now these economies literally rely on third world sweatshops, coercing less fortunate countries for resources and domestic speculative working class debt. At the same time we never solved the problems of hunger, education, healthcare or homelessness in the west, at all, ever.

There also are elections in Cuba, representative and direct Democracy is a big deal there that has much higher participation than the US does. So idk, It's not literally tropico like some goons seem to accept as common knowledge.

you know it's possible to accept the good that castro did without defending the torture and execution of people who just said the wrong thing, or were slightly different communists right?

like, dude's government did some terrible things, but yeah, the agricultural reforms, and particularly what they did after the soviets died are worthy of praise.

the Soviet Union had elections too yeah good stuff

of course Cuba needed the purges to compete with the evil west, I see

and yeah, the countries where the sweatshops are have absolutely no agency of their own. nope, they are this way because of the evil west. South Korea and Japan? what are these places?

There would be no personal freedoms either way, due to US foreign policy. I'm sure all the farmers the contras murdered had their lost thoughts be "at least... I can open a business..."
