A Serious Man is generally pretty underappreciated imo, it nails the bleak comedy thing perfectly

a previous talk about lynch was what i was referencing when i said you have broken my heart before, epic.

wes anderson is fine. i think he has a thing and does that thing very well but it's become the same thing. rushmore and royal tenenbaums are masterpieces. his other films are...fine.

one film nerd thing i appreciate about grand budapest hotel is that the aspect ratio changes in the different time periods to fit the conventional aspect ration of films in that time period. so, the more squarish frame is for the scenes taking place in the 30s/40s. that attention to detail is nice but he is a bit of a one-trick pony.

Oh just vigor in the sense that I'm willing to defend my opinions on the subject. Im normally quite apathetic on the subject

The Ladykillers re-make was really bad tho. I actually walked out on that one but mostly because my girlfriend at the time chose then to have a fight

Not sure how to adjust the ranking because of thst

taking a look at mothersbaugh's wikipedia page and it seems that he worked with anderson up to steve zissou, which is the point where i stopped caring much about anderson. so maybe mothersbaugh was anderson's talisman. then again, mothersbaugh seems to be doing scores for anything he can get his hands on so maybe it's a good thing that anderson moved on from mothersbaugh.

he's doing the next thor movie. now i'm just imagining thor with the rugrats theme.

Also I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox the other day and I think that might have been the time Wes Anderson learned to make good movies? Because even though I love Rushmore a lot despite its astounding badness, everything he made since Fox has been real good.

I started my grad program in film and media studies (switched to another program but that's irrelevant) so i really don't need any one director to convince me that i'm a pretentious film nerd. it just sort of comes with the territory no matter who your faves are. I mean, I can namedrop Chantal Akerman if it makes you feel better.

To be clear I think Max Fischer is one of the better Anderson characters and there are really good scenes and the music in Rushmore is great but the movie is basically discarded scenes from a better one-act play.
