I guess I never tried the phase shift ability cause phase rewind is such hot garbage but DAAAAAAYUM is it like a cheat code for this game. Threw it on a slot I designated "stuff I haven't bothered to play around with much/at all" with my totally unlevelled L-STAR, rank 2 Archer, and satchel charges, and although I took satchels off 4 or 5 games later (if there was an option to default back to your gun after you throw one I might could hang with em but having to switch from holding the trigger is just too drat annoying, especially since even if I wanna detonate it immediately I still end up doing it with reloadx2), everything else performed beautifully.

I really wish other people used the L-STAR because I'm really intrigued by the "pick up another L-STAR and never have to worry about reloading" tooltip

That's very possible. It's really not terrible on console it's just functionally much like an SMG despite feeling nothing like one. It still fucks poo poo up if you don't bite off more than you can chew at range and it worth using just for how cool it looks and sounds.

It's mostly because the aim assist on console is insanely strong. It's like a lock-on when you ADS so hipfire heavy guns are harder to use. It also punishes aggressive play styles since no matter how fast you go any shitter with an AR can just ADS and let the aim assist do all the work. Gamesager was demonstrating how strong it was a few days ago and it's pretty disgusting combined with the low ttk.

Also the same reason why Tone doesn't feel as strong on console, the assist doesn't work for projectiles and people miss with the 40mm constantly. On PC people almost never miss with that thing it's so easy to hit with.

They really hosed up making it so strong it kind of ruins the game on console forcing you to play slow and defensively if you want to win. If they end up doing balance changes based on one platform either nobody will use the ARs on PC or nobody will use an SMG on console without addressing the root cause.

I also always see a glowing red dot on a cloaked pilot in my Titan. Is that some sort of jump pack heat effect or something? It completely gives away the pilot's location for me.

Going to write a quite rundown of basic titan strats for each titan.

Ion
Combat Style : Long range hit and run.
Good Maps : Any
Strong Against : Legion, Tone, Pilots.
Weak Against : Ronin & Scorch up close.
Strong Kits : Grand cannon, Turbo Engine.
General Strategy : Your shoulder laser is your primary damage source, A crit hit on a titan takes one full health pip. Land 2 -3 lasers then push forward when the enemy falls back or if you build your core. If you are on the defensive use all power for trip mines and vortex shield, both do surprising damage (learn to lead a little with vortex shield, the things it captures go out with less momentum then they came in, with the exception of legions bullets.). If Legion or Ronin are in very close range you best be may be to turn and run to try and create space and hit your critical hit points. For tone every three cannon hits pull of vortex. 2ez

Tone
Combat Style : Medium to long range sustained damage.
Good Maps: Any
Strong Against : Everything.
Weak against : Good legions & ions, Melee range scorch.
Strong Kits : Enhanced Particle Wall, everything else is usable.
General Strategy : Only expose yourself when P wall is available. Otherwise fall back while dealing damage. Against Ions watch out for vortex shield. Good Legions will be super annoying, they will only engage at long range when bulwark is off cd, and up close will just eat hits to move through your Pwall. Don't be afraid to use your higher speed to re position to a more favorable engagement range.

Legion
Combat Style : DAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKADAKKA
Good Maps : Any
Strong Against : All titans and pilots, Poor ion players
Weak Against : good ion players.
Strong Kits : Bulwark, Lightweight Alloys, Turbo Engine.
General Strategy : Engage your opponent only in their non preferred range. You can't beat them in their home turf but you will dominate any titan outside comfort zone. Get close to northstar, ion, and tone. Stay away from ronin and scorch.

Scorch
Combat Style : Close range brute
Good Maps: Complex, Crash Site, Drydock.
Strong against : Everything when close
Weak Against : Pilots, anything at range
Strong Kits : ONLY EVER USE ENHANCED FLAME SHIELD FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T TAKE ANYTHING ELSE , Turbo Engine & Nuke.
General Strategy : all of your damage comes from abilities, the thermite gun is the lowest dps titan weapon in the game. Scorch abilities are the highest damage dealing abilities in the game. Try to land traps behind your target then move up with your shield. Either the take damage, or they take damage. There's no shame in running from a unfavorable engagement to find a better angle. Scorch takes finesse, don't force it.

Ronin
Combat Style : Hit and Run Vulture
Good Maps : Any
Strong Against : Weakened Titans
Weak Against : Full health titans, Scorch up close.
Strong Kits : Double Arc Charge is probably the best but everything is usable here. Always run nuke with ronin though.
General Strategy : Really ronin is the 2 in the 1-2 punch. Wait for pilots or other titans to engage, then flank. Your standard routine should be unload shotgun at crit spot, Phase while reloading, unload, then bail if enemy still has substantial health. I don't think mashing sword does more dps than shotgun reload, so don't spaz out and keep hammering normal melee, you will lose every fight if you do that. You can fall back while using sword block so that your target didn't get a beneficial trade from the engagement. Try to use sword core on lone unsupported titans, there's nothing they can really do about it.

Northstar
Combat Style : Hit and Run Vulture
Good Maps : Anything except Complex, Crash Site, Drydock.
Strong Against : Extreme Range Titans
Weak Against : Close to medium range titans
Strong Kits : Enhanced Cluster Missile. Extra dash, Nuke if you can consistently tether trap folks with it.
General Strategy : Northstar is really just a more annoying ion. Get a hit then run Don't walk your northstar into shooting position, you'll take tons of damage from ions and legions that way. You really need to dash out of cover, shoot then dash back in. Only use your super for panic damage as it isn't really good for anythign else right now.

You'll notice I bolded both Enhanced P-Wall and Bulwark. I did this because these kits are BROKE AS gently caress. Each will absorb 3/4ths of a non grand cannon ion blast and 3/4ths (or 100%, depending on how many missles get directed at you) of a Salvo Core.

Installed on the new PS4, and wow, controllers sure are a thing. Already turned on bumper jumper, but I went to the stationary target shooting gallery and I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn even while standing still. It seems that I'm simultaneously over and under aiming whenever I move the stick. No combination of sensitivity and thumbstick style changes seems to help. Any advice?

At close range it's insane. I was trying to gun down an ejector (as a pilot) and some guy jumped in front of me, pulling my crosshair right down. At long range... not really. TF2 (as displayed in PC gifs) is a really fast game and that shouldn't matter except it's all that matters because every match on console is just switching between camping spots. Changing from trying to use the Volt for a week or so to pulling out a Hemlock had me murdering people constantly. I'm still terrible but I could play the long range game better and that's everything on console until the last two minutes when everyone is in a titan. If you watch the kills scroll by it's an endless stream of R201.

Go back in time and spend a decade playing console shooters. :v:

Pick an R201, use Cloak and join in on multiplayer. There's some people who are insanely good with a controller but for the most part it's just adjusting your game to the console life. The real game has autoaim, which I think the tutorial lacks. Failing that, hide until titans come out and then shoot/rodeo them until you get your titan and all the cod practice doesn't matter.

It just takes time. Maybe decrease the sensitivity one tick for a few days to help not spaz out, but as someone who went from competitive quake / quake 3 to consoles and went through the same thing, just stick with it and it will happen.

Scorch, he's actually pretty drat dangerous with the Thermite launcher against pilots. Think carefully before you drop your Titan. Make an ill-advised drop or have him follow you into a dangerous area and you'll feed the other team meter or, in Attrition, points.

If you want to go xim-less (I'm jealous, i want one for bf4), what i do when I'm feeling rusty is lower the sensitivity as much as possible, play through a couple campaign levels, and put the sensitivity up a tick every few minutes. Also, while feels a little silly practicing a loving video game, aiming with those sticks is a hell of a parlor trick if you're used to a mouse and keyboard. Play a little every day so you won't lose the knack of it the second you put down your controller.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Generally I try to drop-kill other pilots with fast unshielded drops, but my titans can end up dying pretty fast afterwards. Any rules as to what makes it a good drop vs bad drop? I'd assume that it's hard for titans to fight while outnumbered, but if that's true, I'm not sure when it's ever a good idea to drop when the enemy has multiple titans.

Megaman's Jockstrap

Well if you never drop your Titan you basically get one boost for the entire match and that's hurting you in other ways.

Since I don't know what modes your playing on, I would say the most viable modes are Amped Hardpoint (he can guard an area or help you attack, and meter-feeding is not as bad in that mode), CTF, and - to a lesser degree - Bounty Hunt on some maps, like Exoplanet or Crash Site.

I absolutely would not ever play Attrition, since Titans and Titan advantage play such a huge part of it.
