Professional sport leagues in China are really sketchy. Lots of bribed refs, fixed matches and ties to gambling and state lottery Even Yao ming got blocked https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-04-27/even-yao-ming-can-t-save-chinese-basketball

The tablecloth story is great. Fixing matches to have the inferior foreigners humiliated before the superior Han is amazing and I'm glad the guy had the ability to flip the bird and split.

I remember back in 2007 watching late-night live boxing on TV in Shanghai. It was usually Chinese vs Chinese, but when the foreigner would come on it was always a guy way below the Chinese guy in terms of skill level. Sometimes it looked like they took a random guy off the street and gave him gloves and then told him to fight. It was very obvious, too. The white or black guys could barely swing and then would get pummeled by the Chinese guy. They were always from Russia or some African country. I am sure it was all just fixed anyway, but it was also apparent that they had to get guys who couldn't box as well or at all. The crowd ate it up, of course.

me missus and I are in Honolulu and it's bliss. It's so beautiful and there are so many Japanese tourists and they are all like "wow your Japanese is great!" which is a lie but like, thank you. Yesterday we were at the beach in Waikiki and there were two older fat guys walking along the beach stopping to take pics of at least four white girls I saw...and they didn't even TRY to hide it. It was egregious. They just turned their phone, swiped it, and one gave me a thumbs up after he took a pic of a girl laying on her stomach reading.. As they walked by, you guessed it...they were speaking mandarin. Then tonight at ABC my wife and I were picking up a six pack and the guy and girl next to us were picking up individual beers saying 这是什么 这是什么 to literally every single beer, almost borat style, so I asked them in Chinese "do you want help with the beer? what kind of beer do you like?" And the girl kinda looked at me and looked away and the guy said "what?" In mandarin and I said it again and the girl said "shut up" to the guy and he said "the foreigner is speaking Chinese" and she said "ignore him" and I was like "I can understand you, do you need help with beer?" And my wife said loudly "please stop talking to Chinese people TGA" lol It's like I'm trying to help and they would rather cluelessly hold up every single beer and say "what is this?" rather than have someone help them. Eh, I tried

Makapu'u beach if you want to body surf and get called names by locals. Eternity beach (next to the Blow Hole) if you want to relax and play in baby waves and hop off a rock, as well as see giant sea turtles that live there.. Deese kine all like 5 minutes from eachudda if you go wess side, brah. Good fo tourist and you can stop at the Costco in Hawaii Kai on the way back and get pizza and frozen yogurt because the food counter is outside the store so you don't have to go inside with a card.

My wife's family plays a game where the loser of the round gets their face written on by another player. I'm not sure how widespread it is but it could just be that.

I can't remember if it's this video, but there's one where one of the guys says he can't work because he has a "marriage visa?" And basically just lives off his wife. The other guy has very little control over his own money and can't even get his own bank account or something. It's pretty interesting because these two are big time apologists for China ("Gee, *I* don't see anything bad, and my life as a white guy in China is pretty sweet, so I guess all those bad things people say about China aren't really true???"). They are releasing more "negative" videos about China nowadays. Edit: On China competitions. I remember reading an article about some darts champion who came to play an exhibition match in China. Everyone was totally silent and sullen as the Chinese competitor was crushed. Then the white guy intentionally started missing and it cheered them right up. mrbotus fucked around with this message at 09:56 on Dec 2, 2016 |

But if he really wanted to, he could find a job and convert it to a normal working visa.

You can't work legally but everyone does anyway since to get caught you would need a policeman who actually bothered to do their job and wasn't scared of talking to the laowai, I don't know a single foreigner here who isn't doing some sort of illegal work. If the guy can't set up a bank account then he's probably just a loving idiot.

Kharnifex posted:The lady soldiers wear heels. My China skateboard story from yesterday: I was going to go skateboard, so I was on the train during non-rush-hour work and school session time, meaning it was pretty mellow. The train arrives to the station and I am the only one getting off at the door I am standing in front of. I usually follow the rules they have (LOL) of people exiting in the middle and people entering from the sides. The train stops and there's three people waiting to get on; two at the sides of the door, and Mr. Urgent directly in front of me with his face almost pressed on the glass. He's a young guy, maybe 25, wearing his headphones and itching to get on that loving instant because it's China if you're not first, you're last. Normally I carry my skateboard at my side, but I saw this guy ready to bolt, so I put it in front of me because I know he's going to shove for no god drat reason. The doors finally open and of course he charges in and shoves past me. I see his the headphone cable get caught on my wheel in front of me, since he thought it was appropriate to be so aggressively stupid and close when there's nothing to push for. I kept walking and a moment later he is jerked back halfway out of the train door by his headphones. I turn around and he just gives me this look. I can't really describe it. It's of utter surprise, but also of fear that he's going to miss this train (next one in 4 whole minutes!!!) because of what I am assuming he blamed on me. I point to my skateboard and he just stands there hunched over due to his headphones pulling him down. I didn't say anything. I freed him while we looked at each other and went on my way, but I had a good chuckle at someone finally being inconvenienced because of their actions.
