So is the party actually getting out of the way for Ellison or is the factionalism just not clearly defined? Here's a good article from a conversation between pollsters in the Trump and Hillary camps. Some excerpts; Fabrizio (R) and Benenson (D):quote:Fabrizio said that the campaign modeled a number of ways in which they could lose the popular vote by as much as four percentage points—they are currently down by about 2.5 million votes (nearly 2 percentage points) at this stage—and still win the Electoral College. Trump won the Electoral College with a 10,000-vote margin in Michigan, a 22,000-vote margin in Wisconsin and a 46,000-vote margin in Pennsylvania.

Schumer doesn't strike me as the sort of guy that would support Ellison just because he has a Machiavellian scheme for the Ellison DNC to screw the pooch in 2020 and make everyone's lives even more miserable just to make sure the Clintonite faction gets the DNC back.

Crowsbeak posted:No. The Financial Elites are screwing you. Time to make them pay. And that's how you follow up my points. Or, start with that, give the ways they're screwing the professional and working classes, and repeat it at the end. Drill it in. Anime Schoolgirl posted:people have been saying this in the 80s, the 00s, and the only fault with it is that it doesn't fit in a 5 second soundbyte, as opposed to blaming minorities which does I know my post is basically preaching to the choir, b/c all/most of us in this thread get it, Bernie supporters get it, and a lot of Hillary supporters get it, but a lot of conservatives and on-the-fence voters don't. Bernie's stump was good at driving home the economic divide, without fully explaining it: "You're working longer hours for lower pay, but all of that new wealth is going to the top 1%." How? Why? It's a nice quick soundbite, but it doesn't say how that money's going to the top, why that money's going to the top and that those people at the top are actively screwing their employees by selling them snake oil policies. Even Hillary said that trickle-down economics isn't working and is a policy that needs massive overhaul in one of the debates, but didn't explain why and how. If you're someone like my conservative mother who opposes minimum wage hikes because prices will go up and she hasn't seen an increase in her income in 10 years, how do you, as a politician, explain to her why her vote, in economic terms, is bad for her? I can do it, have done it, and she is beginning to understand it after lengthy conversations, but she's a dedicated conservative Republican. However, as this election has demonstrated, there are a lot of on-the-fence voters (most, I'd argue) who know that trickle-down isn't working, but they just don't know how and why it isn't unless they're in a union or are a leftist wonk. It needs to go further than just being a cute quick partisan political tweet and actually inform the American people outside these circles. I don't think that my sample message is best, but I think it is of a length that can easily fit into a 30-second political ad. I think I addressed workers and professionals, addressed the problems their having with wage stagnation and deflation, how their bosses and investors take advantage of them, and how the law takes advantage of them. The only thing is that I didn't close it out by saying, "This is how it is working: the people at the top are screwing you both at work and through government influence." e. sorry, this got kinda DnD.
